Anyone use automatic car washes .....
Discussion
...for their 911? I used to use the 'BP' carwashes for my Audi S8, as they have rubber strips for cleaning as opposed to nylon bristles. These didn't seem to damage the car surface at all.
However, I'll be getting my 'new' 996 (three years old, but in mint condition) at the end of this week and wasn't sure whether the odd auto car wash would cause any problems.

Don't be such a lazy bugger mate. Half (well, maybe not that much but certainly some) of the fun in owning a nice car is in stroking it each weekend. (well, that's what I tell the missus about 'owning' me anyway
)
911's and car washes don't agree, they're just not the right shape and have too many funny angles.

I wouln't consider using an auto car wash. I did an experiment once when the Mrs and I owned identical V6 Cavaliers as our everyday cars. (They were great, actually but hardly the sports cars we drive today).
A green one was washed by hand. A Charcoal one (which I used for business) went through the local car wash regularly before business trips for two years.
The hand washed car had paintwork as good as new when we traded it against a Chimaera. The Charcoal one's paintwork was riddled with tiny sworls and scratches.
I have never used an auto-wash since. Luckily I didn't care about the Cavalier. My Porsche on the other hand....
