BMF, MAG and anyone who's anyone has been telling them for years. Glenda "slimy bitch" Jackson (or whoever it was) said that if Labour got in motorbikes would be smiled upon, more free parking for them, better security in bays and they'd be able to use bus lanes. That was in 1997. Since then NONE OF IT has been done and proof of the pudding for me was when buying an eco-friendly little scooter for commuting in April last year I was reprimanded twice by Police for using the buslane and the scooter was stolen from a bike bay in September the same year. Suffice to say I'm not biking anyomore!

That's slanderous. I'm not biking as I can't afford a pocket rocket toy that I'd only use for a few months a year and have to worry about it getting nicked in town or having to pay stupid congestion charges.

Don't buy a "pocket rocket" then!! Buy a decent middleweight, use the money you save to buy decent gear (waterproof and warm) and a decent alarm...then STOP MAKING EXCUSES get out and use it ten months of the year and ENJOY!!!

Yet four years on we still can't ride in bus lanes, there's still VAT on leathers/helmets, not enough parking, the M4 bus lane does not allow for bikes. Small motorcycles have a part to play.... all motorcycles have a part to play. Sorry I just can't stand these posturing tossers anymore

Still paying VAT on helmets! Bit of a weird situation here (speaking from a motorsport car helmet point of view) If you get a helmet with a BSA sticker on it, then it is VAT free, but if you buy a better quality helmet up to say SNELL 95 standard (without the BSA sticker) then you have to pay VAT - where is the sense in that? VAT isn't payable on mandatory safety equipment. Helmets are safety equipment and so BSI marked helmets are exempt. Unfortunately Snell helmets are not road legal in the Uk and so aren't classed as safety equipment. Bizarre I know!

I am sure that leather have VAT on them and they are safety equipment

Leathers have VAT on them because they aren't mandatory. ie You have a choice whether you wear them or not, unlike helmets.....

But did you know that Jaffa cakes don't attract VAT because they are classified as cakes, as opposed to Jammy Dodgers which are currently the subject of intensive Customs & Excise research?
