Great news for fans and ex F1 drivers - gives them another year to keep their own names in the spot light.

I think the car is coming towards him now, he looks quite comfortable in it. When the pace is there (and I think it will be next year) it's going to be quite special.

Quite a mouth watering prospect with

Vettel
Hamilton
Button
Alonso
Schumacher
Raikkonen

All on the grid in the same season; I reckon that might be a record for the most world champions at one time.

All on the same grid, but they won't all be racing each other unless Mercedes improves and Williams performs witchcraft.

Good to hear.
Mercedes have been building a good team of people.

Schumacher would not stay if he was not sure they could have a shot at the title.

"There have been suggestions in the German media that Schumacher has also extended his deal into 2013. I think that there is a good chance he will make it a four year comeback programme, but talking to his manager Sabine Kehm in Delhi, I got the impression they would wait into next year before committing. He will definitely stay with Mercedes as an ambassador, either way."

This does rather point up the absurdity of the no testing rule. It may be a little cheaper (allowing Ferrari, McLaren et al to just make larger profits!), but it means that the optimisation of a car and driver package can now take 2-3 years rather than a few races...

Re-read the article in the link you provided,

There has been mounting speculation that Schumacher’s ever-improving form since his return to F1, allied to progress being made at Mercedes GP, will result in the seven-time world champion also extending his contract for another year until the end of 2013.
