I'm very tempted with a move to an M6 and the low cost to move from my Z4MC to a newer M6 has been a surprise.

Service costs look OK, 12-15mpg in a car that will do a max of maybe 5k miles is OK.

The cars are already so cheap to buy that if I lose another 50% over the next 2 years it still makes for a performance car bargain.

Are there any serious running costs I'm missing as even the service costs look OK.

What is it that is making these cars so cheap?

M5's are even cheaper....

I'd say it's the high running costs that are dropping the price of the M6's and M5's. People just cannot afford to run them, which is a shame as alot of beautiful cars are ran by numpties with no intention to look after it properly and this ruin the car.

Look at the state of the e46 m3 now price wise...

Saying that, that's why I'm trading up my e46 for an M6 very shortly.

Fantastic used buy tho

I would think:

- Frighteningly complicated to fix if they go wrong.
- Expense to fix.
- Not as practical or good looking (!) as the cheaper M5.
- Thristy.
- Being replaced soon.
- Long term releiabilty on the V10 is unknown.
- Very, very niche car.....

Cracking car though if you can afford it and it is what you want.

You've answered your own question.

Plus horrendous maintenance costs once you're out of warranty.

As well as the above, I think it's biggest problem is that in terms of engineering solutions, the M6 is a supercar, unfortunately, it wears a BMW badge...

Plus, aside from the monumental running and repair costs they are not exactly a good looking car from all angles. The rear end is definately harsh on the eye.

"Good looking" and "M6" seriously cam not be used in the same sentence.
They are pig ugly, and I really can't see why BMW ever considered making it.
BMW have a whole host of combination of far better looking and much better ownership satisfaction than the M6.

Don't be so condescending. We don't all feel the need to post unintelligible, cryptic nonsense.

I agree with a few of the comments about the M6 looks, I also think its quite ugly from almost every angle. However, for me, the engine, performance and capabilities massively outweigh its appearance plus you cant see the outside when your inside wearing a massive grin!

Says the man with the best looking euro st box out there... Pot, kettle, black springs to mind... Pray do tell, what is this combination - the new 1 series, or perhaps the 5-er GT? Why BMW ever considered making it - because they could...

I really like the shape of the 6 series, particularly the M6.

Some like the look; some don't. As there is no right or wrong answer, the debate is rather pointless.

M5 and M6 will be looked back as "average" M/// cars with a fantastic engine that is the last of it's kind. I think they'll continue to depreciate rapidly as they are just so expensive to run and the gearbox is showing it's age but that V10 at full chat is certainly very, very special.

i dont know, i think the M6's will level out sooner rather than later.
