Hi everyone,

Is it possible/easy to change from the early coolant pipe layout around the header tank/battery area to the newer type?

Its time to renew the pipes/hoses on mine and getting into the wing under the battery seems like a right faff, so would rather not have to do it again in future if its possible to change it.

TIA

Did not know there was a different layout but you only have to take the tank out which is a 5 minute job.Overall it took me 6 hours to do the lot with new stainless pipes and silicone hoses. On the 4.5 you have to drop the anti roll bar to get to the waterpump and all the pipes have to be retightened as per instructions so dont be tempted to put everything back too early.

As above ^^ I have done it a couple of times now, as long as you mark everything up (especially the thermostat!) and do it bit by bit its an easy job. Be sure to follow the coolant refilling procedure to the letter though biggrin

Thanks guys, I'm probably going to take a bit longer than 6 hours! I really want to clean up the front end, get rid of road crud/old waxoyl, fix a PAS leak and the change the hoses/pipes.

I must admit I didn't know there were two types of layout until told by UKKIDS35, looking at ACT's website there are early and later model arrangements of the piping around the battery/header tank. I would like to avoid putting the pipe back into the wing under the battery if poss byt using the later type pipes.

How hard can it be?! ;-)

Hey mate,
In the week for sure.

I've cleaned up what I can of the heatshield around the pipes, had to cut thru a ton of silicone and the heatshield (which is totally shot), but I cant see how you get those pipes out unless the pax manifold is removed too.

My best guess is that those pipes go into the heater matrix, but how do you get to it?

Yeah man that would be cool. Read up a few posts on the heater matrix and seems like the only to get to it is thru the pax footwell behind the ecu/controls boxes. Great.
