Honda unveils electric sports car concept...

...But it's staying tight-lipped on any details

These are the first sketches of a new electric sports car concept that Honda's set to unveil at the Tokyo motor show in December. And it looks rather intriguing.

Unfortunately, this is going to be possibly the world's shortest news story, because the sum total of information we've been able to prise from Honda is that it is a "Small Sports EV Concept, a next-generation compact EV sports model, fun to drive while achieving excellent environmental performance."

Range? No idea. Performance? No idea. Drivetrain details? No idea. Still, at least you can look at the pretty pictures, and Honda assures us we'll find out more about the car as the show's opening date gets closer...

Sounds like it's missing a little detail to make an informed decision about its worth! smile

And it seems a little odd that Honda would be makeing and Electric Sports car, instead of pushing their Hydrogen technology.

Based on looks alone I think its great, if they can get it to run like a Tesla then we could be in for an EV treat! Although I still cant see electric cars having a future just yet. There needs to be some development away from batteries into different power sources, maybe even wireless charging as you drive but everyone would have to get used to electircally charged hair! =) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inductive_charging

How about prices? Also this concept will probably end up looking quite bland.

Seriously EV's are just so bloody dull!

Hydrogen fuel cell cars are electric.

Looks extremely fine in front and rear three-quarter views, something of a dumpy frump in the side elevation.

Still, the best looking Honda for ages.

Time Honda got its mojo back - and I don't mean the gargoyle-nose of the new Civic, or the Lego-look new CRV.

Cool!
The Civic was very closely matched to the concept car. I hope this one does the same! biggrin

The only advantage of inductive charging is if you are too lazy to plug in a cable

Its the future of EV charging

Too right.
Looking at their current offerings it's hard to believe they made the S2000.

Nice to look at but if it's anything like their previous "electric sports" car offering it actually won't be very sporty. Let's hope they give this one a bit more power than an asthmatic mule.

If the pictures are in proportion and assuming a 6' tall driver, the car will be about 10' to 11' long! Interesting packaging...

Enough of the eco electric environmental tree hugging nastiness.. Honda need to sort out a fitting replacement for the NSX as the current output of the car company is dire, boring, uninteresting!! (IMO) Their bikes are cool though!! and unlike the cars they actually have some performance.

I await it with intrest as honda normally gets it right first time round and fluffs it second time round

First RWD sports car S800 excellent little thing the S2000 is a bit meh

First hybrid the insight 100Mpg tiny little 2 seater the second insight is a poor copy of a prius

First supercar the NSX and it hasn't been replaced yet but the concepts have been meh

agree with comments about mojo somewhat lost and let's see NSX replacement. This appears to be an S2000 replacement. If lightweight I'd be happy as looks good (from front at least).

r.e. weight distribution wheels close to all 4 corners can't be bad thing

not sure about runp however - then again it appears neither are Honda!

I like it to look at, kind of a CRZ roadster. I am also being slightly swayed towards EV's now as a viable alternative, I just dont feel that the infrestructure is moving on fast enough.

Fast chargers and decent bacon butties at motorway service stations is what we need to make them a viable solution for many. But i don't think that technology is there yet from what i have seen we are asking way too much of the UK infrastructure to deliver it. It is perfectly doable on a small scale and has been proved to work perfectly but for some reason as you up the demand it just doesn't work. The bacon turns all rubbery.

won't need charging if hydrogen fuel cell - just topping up with hydrogen
