Now that both games are out, with a bit of playtime behind them, I'm interested to see which game PH'ers prefer.

Having played MW2 and BOps, I currently own MW3, which I have been trying to get into, but I feel like I'm forcing myself to enjoy it and considering trading it in for BF3 - I haven't played a battlefield game before but the emphasis on team play and strategy as well as the massive maps make it seem appealing for my playstyle - I try to play slowly and intelligently but this approach gets you shot in the back alot in MW3!

So, which game do you prefer and why? Sensible reasons please don't let this devolve into a flamewar!

I prefer BF3 for the size of map and variety of vehicles on offer and also the ability to damage pretty much anything

I've got both and if I'm honest I prefer to play MW3. BF3 has the bigger maps, better realism/graphics and of course vehicles but I'm not good at it. I just can't get on with it and I consistantly get killed by players who have much better kit and know the maps. If I finish a game with more than 5 kills it's very good game. MW3 on the other hand is easy to jump into a game and just feels better.

If my friends are playing BF3 I'll join in for a game but i usually end up walking away in a very bad mood.

MW3 for me.

BF3 for me. The original Modern Warfare was brilliant, but MW2 truly ruined it, and MW3 feels just like an add on of MW2, for me..

Maybe better to ask in a couple of weeks when people have a chance to get their hands on MW3.

I have both but not being a big fps fan cannot really tell the difference.

Precisely this for me. How the trailers actually 'sold' the game to anyone I have no idea, as it looks IDENTICAL to MW2. They should have just added new maps to the old game and been done with it.

However, I'm biased as I've been a Battlefield fan for considerably longer and much prefer the 'hunt' in Battlefield compared to the 'surprise corner frag' style killing of MW and the weapons seemingly firing at 5 x their normal rate of fire.

Got both - both stunning. BF3 is edging ahead for me EXCEPT - and this is really, really fking me off - getting killed on respawn is just out of hand. Last night I spent an entire game just trying to respawn - I rarely even got a shot off. 28 deaths. 0 kills. Embarrassing.

Yep, spawn mechanics in BF3 are pretty ropey IMO, especially in TDM. Far to random and lost count of the amount of times I've been spawned into gunfire or 2 feet in front of an enemy who has knifed me in the back within 1 sec.

TBH, not massively taken with either at the moment. I find the maps in MW3 are all too tight with too many different kill angles, getting shot/shanked in the back is already becoming annoying but I just probably need to play more and learn the maps better.

Find BF3 a little sterile, and still think there are a few issues in the core mechanics of the game that could do with patch. Plus, the user interface is dreadful.

During the period that MW2 and BC2 came out I played a ridiculous amount of both and thoroughly enjoyed it. Perhaps i was expecting too much that this gen would bring anything new to the table, especially in the case of BF3.

The charts in BF3 aren't ranked by kills for a reason

You can be a top player with 10 deaths and zero kills wink

I'm on BF3, on the PC...there's really no choice. Run & gun with the 1999 engine or....64 players on pure visual glory and carnage....

I prefer BF3...tbh I think I've grown out of COD games (or at least the latest ones, as I still play and enjoy MW2 online) .

coffee

As for the COD vs BF debate (that this thread will turn into, of that I have no doubt) rolleyes
The are completely different games, to compare them is like comparing NFS with Forza.

play what YOU enjoy
yes

Funnily enough the game I was moaning about was a TDM - first one I've tried. I won't be bothering with that again. (I never play TDM - I prefer objective based FPSs)

Got both on the xbox, BF3 for me. It suits my type of play better, it places a greater emphasis on team play and strategy which I find more enjoyable. MW3 doesn't feel like an evolution from MW2 although it is better than BLOPS.

I prefer the loadout menus in MW3 and the ability to customize your weapons a bit more. I think the pace of the new game is insane though. Far too quick even when I got my eye in the other night I was still getting murdered every two seconds after spawning as the maps are so tight it is easy to negotiate them very quickly so no spawn point is safe. BF3 has the same problem in team deathmatch but you play BF3 for Rush and conquest not deathmatch so it doesn't bother me too much.

Both single player campaigns are distinctly average and don't feel much like a revolution. The storyline on MW3 is marginally better but that is it.

I haven't played MW3 but I won't get it for a number of reasons

1. Paying for DLC really f**ks me off
2. It's fun for 20mins play but then I have MW2 for that, this won't be much different

I just prefer the Battlefield game style overall, I love sitting in a tank mowing people down. I love planting C4 on a tank and running away to blow it to smithereens, cackling to myself. I love putting C4 on a helipad, waiting for them to jump in and take off, then detonate. I love firing mortars and smoke. I love getting in a chopper, and jumping out over a tall building and sitting on the roof shooting the enemy. I love dropping anti tank mines and just waiting for the points to roll in as the enemy just career over them. I love planting C4 on a jeep and letting the enemy "capture" it, then detonating....... I love when someone is hiding behind a wall, slowly shooting that wall to bits, and watchimg them panic knowing their cover is going. I love it if there is a blocked route, just blowing a hole in the wall and making your own route...... I love firing tank shells at the buildings and blowing them to pieces. I love reviving my team (the other day I sat behind a wall, my team mate was firing around it, and each time he got killed, I revived him, we kept an entire area pinned down doing that)....

In short, there are just so, so, so many ways to play Battlefield.

TDM has never been BF's forte as it doesn't really suit the games mechanics very well. Best stick with COD for that. Conquest and Rush are far superior and you control the spawning so fewer problems. Still doesn't feel quire right to me overall though.

1. BF3 will have just as much DLC as MW3 eventually, including stty stuff like "unlock everything in the game for £7.99" if BC2 was anything to go by, and arguably at least MW3 doesn't come with an online pass locking it to a single console...

2. Agreed, which is why I have both. Need to have a couple of hours free to get into BF3 and really feel satisfied, MW3 gives you an instant hit. It isn't much different from MW2 but stuff like Kill Confirmed etc. definately add to the experience IMO, and as I traded MW2 for BLOPS I'm happy to go back again smile
