Chaps,

I'm making some double-glazing sashes for the windows at the front of our house.

As they will be double-glazed, the new windows will be a fair bit heavier than the old ones. But, having looked at the cost of lead weights, I think I need a stiff drink ...

I need to talk to someone who has experience of making sash windows to plan the best way forward, but would rather not talk to any of the 'restoration' companies who advertise as they are also (funnily enough) the ones who sell lead weights ...

Does anyone on here have any experience of making sash windows and can give me some sensible (not expensive) advice about weights?

Thanks.

Oli.

You could try a local scrap dealer, for this is where all the old weights go having had plastic windows installed.

Can't you adapt them to use springs or is there not enough room in the boxes ?

I seem to remember the chippy I use said there isn't enough room in the sash boxes to take enough weights for a double glazed sash when I asked him. We're literally having a new three sash unit in a bay window fitted at the moment, I'll ask him if I see him later.
