It's been done. I would not go on recommendations as what works for one person may not work for someone else. First find a seat that you fit in. Get the dimensions and do some measurements to see it it will fit where you need the seat to be located. To solve the headroom issue, bolt in place through the floor and that will give the maximum headroom and will gain a few cm over the standard seats. When you bolt through, use a set of Tower View reinforcement bars so that the stress is taken by steel. They bolt in place.
Things to watch out for... the side head rest wings don't hit the window/door. the seat sides don't cause a problem with gear changes.

Any recommendations for a retailer that carries seats in stock so you can test them out? ... or possibly a manufacturer?
It only takes a few minutes to remove a Chim seat from the car anyway, so I guess a bit of dismantling and trial fitting in the car park might be in order.

I already have the Tower View bars (I found the bouncing up and down as the fibreglass floor flexed alarming).
I just wanted a make/model as a start - I intend to trial fit any seat to both my immense bulk and the car....
And I too would like to know if there's anywhere in the South East where one can go and try some out?

Tbh, Halfords superstores normally stock a fair amount of race seats to try out. They're all bolted to a stand so its easy to test them.
Yeah, but dragging the whole rack out into the car park p*sses off the Hellfrauds folk no end...
