As the title says really - thinking about buying one as my screen has developed a few cracks. Got them gaffer taped up for the meantime and it's keeping the weather out, but would probably look at buy a new zip out bit and fitting it myself.

How difficult is it to do such a thing?

Thanks in advanced thumbup

I think you can buy a whole new hood for £150 ? (fit it yourself)

You have to be careful as apparantly there is about 3 different zip configurationsmon a MK1 !!

On my old MX5 got a new one sewn in by http://www.autoinsider.co.uk/local/car-trimmers-an...

can't remember the price but wasn't anywhere near the new hood cost, and they were excellent it looked as if it was the original.

I had one replaced on my mk1 and within 18 months the window was broken again, so I forked out for a roof with a glass screen, which was much better in the winter and still going strong almost 5 years later.

They don't crack if you unzip them - not until they are ancient anyway. I had my old Mk1 with zip-out window for 6 years and the window stayed like new as I always unzipped it and always used a window protector.

I did it myself - you can get just the window part from mx-5 parts .co.uk.

It was a whole-day-job but it was the first thing I ever did on my Mk1 and I was fine.
