Hello All,
I have been lurking round here for months now, but as I have finally taken ownership of my first Noble I guess I should now say hello!
I have noted that I apparently need a sword - although I'm not too sure why, and also that I need to eat more burgers - which I do understand as long as they don't interfere with Curry!!
The car I have bought will be know to some of you as it used to be owned by a PHer with username Twerlie and is currently in a rather larger number of bits at Jetstream waiting to have the engine rebuilt - hopefully with a few new shiny bits, but certainly with a lot of strenghtened parts (bearings, valve springs, pistons(maybe), gearbox, clutch etc) in readiness for some power hikes in the future.
I should probably get it back just in time for the weather to be too bad to drive it properly!
Anyway, hello one and all, and looking forward to the first outing.
By the way, please don't confuse me at any time with someone who knows what he is doing!! (or done, or about to do....)
Best Possible Regards
Graham
Oh, forgot to say that I could be interested in any new/good spare bits that can cut the rebuild cost down.
Don't suppose anyone has some spare forged pistons or BB turbo's taking up shelf space? Well, I had to at least ask!

You are jumping staight in to the deep end by the sound of it. But dont worry about your lack of knowledge your car is in the right hands at jet stream.
Steve
Congrats on picking up a Noble.Last i heard, a guy called Plenty owned it.
First message appeared to have been removed but this was the thread when he first took ownership of it.

Hope the rebuild dosent take too long, it can be frustrating owning one of these cars and not being able to use it. All the best with it, its in good hands at Jetstream.

Hi Graham and welcome indeed, Your cars deffinatley in the right place for the work going on.
If your thinking about a meet / trip out theres no better than the annual Spa/Ring pilgrimage that a few of us hardened eaters attend each year.
As far as parts go you could try pm to Daddysumo.... He usually has a set of hardly used turbo's kicking around as he tends to go through more of them than Prodrive used to. ( in the R&D term )
Steve / Grant any bits this fine fellow can puuuurrrrchase from you!.
Matty.

It was in many bits when I collected my car from it's service some time ago but from a garage a long way from where it is now. What happened?
To paraphrase, that was "A long time ago in a garage far far away......."node said:

Yes, I bought it off Plentie - a top chap I might say. He needed different quotes to get the best cost/result for what grew into a big rebuild, well actually just a big taking apart so far, and after many twists & turns the car ended up with Jetstream.playalistic said:
I seem to remember seeing your Nob at JSM... The blue one in a thousand pieces?
Blue and in a thousand peices is correct, but not at JSM - it must be catching!

Welcome to the Nobility
Twerlie's car was pretty sorted
sorry to hear the engine let go - what was wrong with it ?
what power hikes are you going for ?

Nothing too serious in the end, but stuff that needed attending to.
It showed hydrocarbons in the coolant, leakdown was bad on one cylinder and I was concerned about low/dropping oil pressure.
Turned out to have just a slight head gasket leak, the crank was a little scored, signs of pickup in the oil pump, a little light marking in a couple of bores, which has honed out nicely, and the heads need rebuilding.
Initially I'm just looking at doing the boring strengthening things without actually changing injectors etc and remapping - just getting the foundation work done to leave all the options open I guess.
Target - would like to join the 600 club
but I think that may be a step too far for my budget - at the moment anyway.I definately want to get to 500+ very soon though (it was 420-450 previously) and it will be built up with HD bearings, new oil pump, ARP head studs and uprated valve springs.
The block has already been honed and I'm contemplating forged pistons to allow me to go for >>500bhp but I'm not sure if I can afford whatever other mods are needed to support much beyond that eg heads, cams, heat treatment etc., so I'm undecided on that yet.

Maybe I will have to plan for mid 500's instead? Which should still be plenty after all!
The gearbox will be getting the gearboxman treatment anyway, and the turbos (T28's) will be off to Universal for refurb and probably have the impellers cut back a tad - can't afford to swap for new GT ball bearing turbos just now!
Clutch obviously needs upgrading (probably helix 5/6 paddle - not sure about lining material yet) and will do new slave anyway, together with Fidanza flywheel.
It also needs new manifolds so they will be the Alunox ones.
I've not actually seen this car for over 4 months, so now I've actually bought it I'll go over to Jetstream and see it next week (probably sit in it and make "brum brum" noises
) and have a good chat with Dave about the options. As you all say, at least it's in good hands there!
