You'll need a phono stage unfortunately. You can either buy a stand alone unit and a conventional turntable, or you can buy an integrated unit, for example a Sony PSLX300. I've no idea of the quality of these, but it would be a simple solution. You would also probably need a lead to plug it in to your aux input, but this wouldn't be hard to source.

Thanks for that mate- do you think this one below would do the job?

Ion Profile LP Vinyl-Archiving Turntable
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ion-Profile-LP-Vinyl-Archi...

Sold on Amazon by Richer Sounds who i know are pretty good. The sony stereo it'll be plugged into only cost £120 and has plenty of punch so i just want a cheapy player for occasional use.

Thanks again, Matt

Avoid those cheapies - I tried one, but returned it the same day as it was incapable of turning the turntable at anything like a consistent speed.

(Wow and flutter?)

You should be able to pick up a second hand Project Debut on ebay for under £100. It will be a decent step up from the Ion one you linked to and you will get your money back when you come to sell.

You will need to get one with the built in phono stage as mentioned above.

You should be able to pick up a turntable at your local charity shop for £not much (Saw a reasonable Sony deck in my local BHF furniture / electrical shop last week for about £20).

Maplins sell semi-decent quality pre-amps for similar money.

(I was in the charity shop as I feel the need for a Sanyo Music Centre for my office)
