The 'Hi' thread that has just been deleted, which particular line was crossed that caused it to be removed?

have to agree with tiger, what was so wrong about it. if any of the mods think that guy is on the level, then i have to say that lunchtime drinking on a friday is affecting your sensibilities.

there are a lot of scammers in the local forums and classifieds. this is the first time i've seen it on PH. the guy's FB page also makes it look like he's phishing for dubai residents. i know that doesn't sit anywhere on PH's agenda, but if we could have that thread simply locked for future reference should cal pop up locally [to point expats towards the scam] then so much for the better.

if this was GG, it would have run and run and there'd be 40-50 pages worth. just because we are outside the uk doesn't mean that the threat of scam is any less valid.

i realise i was sarcastic towards the guy, but in hindsight i should have gone much further.

Personal information was being posted, and this is not allowed under the rules of posting rather than edit the life out of the thread it was decided to delete.

Genuinely disappointed that this was removed, the stuff on 6speed whilst relevant is not of as much use to anyone.

At best the guy was infringing copyrights for photos (pending a reply from Tom Hartley), at worst he was trying to cash in on unsuspecting people in the region, namely Qatar in this instance.

I'd rather it was edited and reposted.

Al I thought the thread was restrained and very fair; the lad was given a chance to demonstrate that the "business" that he was promoting was legit and that he wasn't a time waster/scammer/whatever you want to call him. He couldn't.

I really can't see that anything outrageously personal was posted. Certainly there was nothing more identifying than the information provided by him in his own profile. The Facebook link was to his partner's profile, and there were one or two links to other sites of his but they weren't quoted so could easily have been removed if really necessary.

So, m'lud, I would humbly suggest that in this case thread deletion was OTT.

Sorry for the disappointment, but it clearly states on rule of posting No. 4 clearly states you will not:-

"Use the forums to harass anyone, including but not limited to posting personal or private information, photos etc without permission from the person to which such information, photos etc relates."

That rule IMHO was being well and truly overstepped by some members and I'm not aware that said information was being posted with his permission, regardless of whether is was within the public domain on the internet.

So to bring this to a close you have asked why it was removed, I have given my reasons for said removal.

Time to move on.
