Been thinking how hot it gets under the bonnet and hence the temperature/density of the the air entering the engine etc. Also how hot the plenum, inlet manifold and associated bits and pieces get.

- Has anyone played around with moving the air filter perhaps up the front or down low and not behind the radiator?

- Taking it a wee bit further anyone tried water injection?

Cheers!

I've been toying with the idea of moving the air filter out of the hot engine bay of my 350i - maybe in to the air scoop in front of the rad (like on the Chim I used to have). The only thing stopping me is losing the originality of the car. If it would make a big difference, I'd do it. If it would only be a marginal improvement, I wouldn't bother...

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

I'm in agreement with you, I'm not about to start chopping the car up and losing it's originality. I had my car on a dyno last week and the guy that runs it reckons its a crazy place for the filter and that it gets very hot under the bonnet and because of this suggests over 10hp could be gained by moving it. He also reckons 20hp could be achieved by introducing water injection.
