Exhaust Coatings (Gauging Interest)

With all the threads on engine cooling and the comments on exhaust generated heat and the fact that I have an exhaust in the garage thats in need of a bloody good clean, I thought about gauging the interest in a bulk order for Ceramic coating.
If there are more than three complete sets then maybe some sort of discount could be negotiated with the coating company.
I have not been in contact with the company so I don't know if this would be possible, but if I speak to them and give them an indication of the interest then maybe they would come across with some sort of discount.
I'm only just getting started on my build, so exhausts, engine etc are a good way down the line but if there is enough interest I would be willing to get it done now, atleast the exhaust will be out of my way for a while.

Stig organised a bit of a discount before (http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=71144&f=20&h=0) so you might be able to get the same deal. It had to be in groups of three as I remember. I've had mine done since new and they've been great. Good to hear that it's clearing up the overheating problems other have had too.

Yup. Mine had 2k miles on them and no problem at all. Some were far older than that! Guys had about 10k miles worth of grime

Not so worried about the look, more as to whether large chunks drop off
I've heard comment (probably uninformed) that coating the inside of a used pipe is a complete nightmare. Two happy campers (Bluesatin and Stig) give me enough confidence to say "put me down". (cue crap joke from someone
) When I send my pipes off, how long should I expect to wait to get them back? Should this be a winter exploit?
I'm looking forward to refitting the manifolds already
(last attempt resulted in me fabricating a tap by cutting a bolt diagonally with a hacksaw, to clear the swarf from the start of a cross threaded attempt to fit a bolt) For those contemplating the coating on a new system then I would recommend that you do any machining work required to port match the exhausts to the cylinder head before coating.
You don't want to be trying to clamp your newly coated header in a vice to take a carbide burr to it.

OK.....if I'm reading this right, we have atleast four interested but not ready just yet? Well that’s no real problem, I'll give the coaters a call later on and see what can be arranged.
For clarification an exhaust system is from 'headers to tail pipes'
I will PM those who have shown an interest later to advise on the costs etc……..

I too have had my exhaust ceramic coated and would recommend it in helping to keep the temp down.
BE AWARE:- I together with a couple of others took the complete system for coating. They did not complete all 3 sets at the same time as they said they had problems with one set and had to get it cleaned and start again. I went down with J-K to collect our newly chromed pipes and rushed home to start fitting them.
I had great problems fitting one of the manifolds but odly not the one I had problems with when I originaly fitted them - so I started to think they had mixed them up. I then came to fit the exhausts and I had 2 nearside boxes - I now knew they did mix them up. J-K had the correct boxes (well at least he had one of each)so it meant that they had sent two wrong ones out a week earlier and they had allready been fitted back on the car. So off one of them came and we did a swap.
It might pay to stamp some form of ID on each part to ensure you get the same bits back.

For the bulk discount I arranged, I discreetly stamped each system on the manifold flange and the silencer tails so that didn't happen
