Induction hobs, what's the latest news.
Discussion
As the last thread I could find about induction hobs was 2009 I thought it was time for a new one.
Aiming to remodel the kitchen soonish, and 4 burner induction hobs are down to about 300 pounds locally - which seems like a decent deal.
Really not keen on gas - (got a barbacue for that) - and it would have to be a bottle anyway.
So who's changed in the last couple of years - which way did you go and why?
We have an old ceramic hob at the mo - can't wait for something rather better.
We recently changed from gas to induction, although it's a Bosch hob at roughly twice the figure you've seen, although I don't know how it performs compared to other induction hobs.
Anyway, it's amazing, it makes gas seem slow and uncontrollable. The downside is that we've had to relearn how to cook, to some extent, you can't just put a pan on and go and do something else for a few minutes while it warms up. It just heats up too quickly for you to leave it unattended. Temperature changes are pretty much instantaneous, much quicker than gas, and it'll hold a low simmer perfectly.
The only snag is that it's black and glossy, so needs to be wiped and dried clean. Also, if you spill water on the contacts (the control 'buttons'), it will get upset and shut down until you clean it off. Doesn't do any harm, it's more of a safety feature.
Get one, is my recommendation.

Moved into current house about 5 years ago with induction already installed.
Can't see us going back to traditional hobs, as it's so good.
As above, quick to get up to temp, controllable and relatively safe (it doesn't produce heat unless there is something metal on the rings).
Only downside is having to choose pans more carefully, as not all types are suitable for use. Still regret having to get rid of my enormous stockpot as it wouldn't work.
