At the moment Halifax are offering 6% on their children's saver which you pay into each month (up to £100 I think). Bear in mind though that like with all savings accounts you will need to keep any eye on the interest rates and be prepared to move the money about to ensure that you are getting the best return.

I think, considering the time horizon, you might want to consider something other than cash.

Also, you mention 15 years, which I am guessing means that your grand-daughter might be 3 (and thus the total taking her through to age 18). If this is the case, she is likely to have a Child Trust Fund, and you should consider adding to this.

If she is younger, then you should probably be considering Junior ISA.

A google search will tell you all you need to know about them.

I'm in a similar position. I'm about to open some accounts for my son and intend to max out his Junior ISA allowance each year myself, and then pay any extras (Christmas cheques from gran, etc) into a savings account of some kind.

Ideally I was hoping to hold both of these with the same provider, and one who would have a reasonable internet portal as that's how I manage all my own accounts at present. However, there don't appear to be that many Junior ISAs on the market and I would definitely prefer not to be switching accounts each year chasing the introductory bonusses.

So, can anyone offer any advice? Is anyone offering both of these who you would recommend?

I'd also be interested in any advice or recommendations about junior isa's. Ideally I would like to invest (self-select) in stocks & shares for my daughter using her junior isa as a wrapper, but I don't know if this is possible or not.

Thanks in advance.

A short thread on JISAs here: http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f... ISAs&mid=20929

I'm happy with HL thus far.

I've read the other thread, but still not much wiser on providers who offer both a proper children's savings account and a Junior ISA under one roof, and who aren't a pile of cack to deal with.

Anyone?
