About to go buy a valiant ecotec pro 28he combi boiler as recommended by plumber who will fit it. A good £900+. Typical semi with 1 bathroom. Can anyone advise ( put my mind at ease) that these are a decent boiler? Thanks

a very good boiler, rated well by which magazine.

I;d actually upgrade the basic ecotec pro, to a ecotoe plus 831, this will give you better hot water, has a more intelligent PCB & better user interface, and easier to fit, with its supplied pipes & intregtated fill loop.

Oh the plus 831 come with a 5yr guarentee, where as the pro 28 only a one year.

Gotta be worth the extra £125.

I've just looked up a couple websites for the plus 831 but they only say 2 year guarantee with this one?

normally yes, but until December 31st, they come with a 5yr guarentee

Try this website http://www.vaillant.co.uk/homeowners/2011-guarante...

All this raving about Remaha. Are they the dogs danglies? We don't fit them and I don't know if I've ever really come across one that needed looking at, so my knowledge is slim on them.

In my experience plumbers fall into two camps, the "eh whats that" or the "I don't fit anything else" I'm in the latter.

So you'd say the best boiler the world has seen? I'm employed, so I don't pick the fittings.

They seem to have designed it with the installer/service engineer in mind. The main problem I have with them is choosing from the many control configurations available on the pcb.

Had a Vaillant in my old house (1 bathroom, 2/3 bed). Think it was an 824 or an 831. Superb piece of kit.

We had the wireless thermostat on ours, but to be honest if I were doing it again I wouldn't bother - I'd get a wall thermostat in the coldest room and use TRVs.

Just be aware that with any combi, if any other taps in the house are used at the same time as the shower etc, you will get a drop in pressure (thermostatic mixer stopped a temp drop).

They're excellent for doing away with tanks and cylinders and saving space generally in smaller houses though.

831 plus also has all brass manifolds inside instead of plastic on the 28 pro, spend the extra there a cracking boiler. Few problems with them when they first came out a couple of years ago but Vaillant revised a few parts and been pretty spot on since. I even put one in my parents house last year as wanted something reliable and well priced.
Problem with Rehema is people either love them or hate them, so parts can be a bit of pain to get and they do have some odd controls on a few Ive worked on in the past.

Our plumber told me the Avanta parts are common right across the range so he has a small box in his van.

A box he hasn't had to open in 5 years! laugh

We have fitted Vaillant and WB in recent years and had call backs to both. The Avanta is so neat too.

I guess as with many things, its what you are used too...

I would agree the avanta is as well designed as the vaillant with the maintenance engineer in mind.

I fit about 40 Vaillants a year, and have very few problems with them.
