When does a car become 'old' in your opinion? You hear people say they want something 'newer' or 'dont want an older car' or 'my cars old now its a 53 plate!!'

I just dont think 10-15 years is particularly old for a car anymore in general.

Well according to most people out there in the UK, 3 years is old rolleyes

I would consider anything older than 1990 ish to be old.

Nothing wrong with Joe Public being stupid and always wanting something new because 'ugh its 4 years old no thanks' is there? Means theres more good value used ones out there for us to buy driving

i think car design changed quite tastefully around the 2000 mark

ford and vauxhall had a good range shakeup with mondeo's , vectra's, corsa's dropped escort, etc.

Renault revamped there range with new laguna and clio

e36 to e46 which i will like for years to come i think.

Most pre 2000 (or there abouts) cars are certainly more dated.

This is very true! Pretty much a brand new car, run in by someone else, should have a main dealer SH, and half the price. Yes please! smile

I think this question partly depends on local conditions ... cars are lasting far longer now, not so long ago many were rust heaps by the time they were 8 years old .... depends on your personal viewpoint really but old to me is anything more then 8 years worn .. old bangers 51 plate & older

New plates = modern
Prefix plates = Old
Suffix plates = Classic era

There, that's that sorted (dusts hands)

I think now, for me, anything pre 98 is too old for my consideration (TVRs and certain Jags aside). Isn't the actual industry standard for "old" about 7 years or something?

Anything that's not the current plate is ancient, an eyesore and should be scrapped as it's a burden to others, a menace to society and a misery to its owner. A neighbour has a car that's a 59 plate - how embarrased must they be?!

I'd class anything with a starting handle as its only means of getting going as being old smile

Around 2000/2001 for me. Most cars before that look dated IMO.

When i was first into cars in the late 80s, early 80s W/X reg leyland rustbucket's looked ancient compared to say the new '88 cavalier or Pug 405, even though they were only 6 or 7 years old.

Car design hasnt changed much in 10-15 years. A 1998 beetle to me looks the same as a 2010 one.
So i'd say early 90s at least to be 'old'

This year it is the Nissan Leaf...I bet there are more punto's on the road today than there will be Nissan leafs on the road in 15 years smile

Car of the year is a joke now it just goes to the most politically incorrect green thing thats come out that year. Formality really.
