I'm stuck in North Wales at the moment with a sick car and need to get back to Kent.

I've split a boost hose and although I've made a temporary repair with Gaffa tape, I'm sure it won't last the journey as the tape is melting (is reasonably close to the manifold).

So, if it can't be repaired by Mr recovery man, would they drop the girlfriend off at her hotel she has booked en-route if its not too much of a detour? She is booked in at Farnborough, Hampshire for the night.

You know that's just going to result in her getting a ploughing from the AA bloke, right?

He'll have some high temp tape in the van, or something to sleeve the hose....pretty sure they'll get it fixed at the roadside.

Depends on the recovery driver. One of them dropped me off at home after a crash but only because it was practically on the way. Perhaps a couple of beer tokens might clinch the deal?

I would have thought that would be an easy fix, they can use exhaust tape which will resist the heat. In any case, surely a split boost hose will only make the car a bit gutless to drive, not undriveable?

If youu do get recovered,it sounds like a bit too much of a detour, I expect. Maybe drop her at a station so she can get the train there?

Not good frown

As said some heat proof tape will work ok as a temp repair & if you got some time it might be worth getting on the Rs owners or Focus Rs enthusiasts sites there may be someone local to you who can help they tend to be a very helpful bunch smile

Exhaust tape... Should have thought about that... Hopefully it'll be a roadside job then.

Could probably drive it back off boost as is doing a max of 50 mph... Anymore and it coughs and splutters big time.. However. I dont want to be the numpty in the slow lane causing miles of tailbacks!

Does she know you can't remember if she is wifey or girlfriend? How odd. Surely you remember if you married her or not?

Presumably there are three of you in the car then, you, wifey and girlfriend? Good lad!

An RAC van drove past me the other day, and the driver was at the wheel sobbing uncontrollabley. I thought to myself "that guy is heading for a breakdown."

Sorry to hear of your troubles, OP, but come on!

If you want to know if he'll drop your life partner off somewhere, ask him, not us!

If he won't, what will you do? Refuse to be recoved?

As soon as it comes on boost it will be fuelling for it so will be running very rich hence the coughs & splutters

Should be able to look for the stuff that has a relective surface i use it as a heat sheild on the underneath of the bonnet & slam panel its very strong & durable although a bit fiddly to put on probably easier to do with the pipe off so you will need to have something to undo the jubilee clips hth smile
