Mind you when I was a kid we had chips done in beef dripping, course nowadays they are all cooked
in veg oil and have become tasteless.
Recently, the better restaurants I have been to are proud to tell you that they cook their chips in beef drippingMind you when I was a kid we had chips done in beef dripping, course nowadays they are all cooked

Sounds great. Much prefer fried bread done like that than when you go to many cafes and restaurants and what you actually get is a slice of bread thrown into a deep far frier and your get an orange crispy horrible thing.
Kind of how I do mine. I use the doorstep thick pre-sliced bread, Kingsmill or Hovis, loads of oil into a saute pan, heated until it's hot, then the bread goes in, 30 seconds each side, golden brown with white fluffy centre. Yum.It's an anachronism, thank god. What next?...sending children up a chimney to sweep it?
I remember it from when I was a kid...lovely.Not had fried bread in ? 35 years.
What about eggy bread? soaked in egg then pan fried just the same.
I can feel my arteries clogging up just thinking about it.

I would sometimes have bread and dripping as a child - it's been standard fare for centuries. But then people worked off the fat and calories in the fields and factories, not sitting in an office poking a computer.
My Father still does have bread and dripping. He loves it ! (Aged 95)Simpo Two said:
