I know there have been threads about badly written ads or "No Timewasters" but I haven't seen this type of silver tongued ad before.

"£ 1,800 No offers - so please don't offer anything below this as you will be told where to go!!"

To be fair who wouldn't want to buy a non running 330 saloon for a mere £1800

And as he states there is a good reason for sale

"have been offered an even better deal on a better car so this must go"

Especially not when he's put it as an auction rather than a Buy It Now/Classified ad.

It, and the world in general, doesn't owe the advertiser squat if he can't be bothered to do it up to sell and he advertises with an attitude.

He deserves the very little he's going to get for it if he doesn't change his tune.

I hate the "owes me" line. I really don't care what you have spent/wasted that's just tough!

It's handy though as it tends to let you know that you're dealing with a trader.

Some ads really leave you pondering to phone and view a car with the way the advert is written - but note to advertisers using such quotes "no offers" etc

Its only worth what the buyer is willing to pay! nothing more nothing less.

I was trying to sell my type r a few years ago , asking price 12k . Think I got more than 50 calls with low low offers . One guy was calling me 3 times a week with an offer of 10k , nicely I told him I rather keep it rusting than sell it for anything less than the asking price , after 3 weeks he came and paid asking price .

For an LPG-borked 330i with no pics? A grand. No more.

The ones i hate are when you scan through AutoTrader and see a car at 595 or something then at the bottom of the ad it says "price is really 1595!!!!!"

We know why they do it, it costs less to list a car for under a grand but why dont these things get removed instantly?

I am not a car trader. I am a retired Charterd Accountant, But I do understand why sellers request no offers below a certain figure.

I never do that. When I am selling a 60 year old car I always ask the buyer to come and vie the car first. Even with the best photos and description one mans neat repair to a corroded panel could be seen as a botch job by the viewer.

I think viewing is essential before making an offer on such as car. If individuals make an offer I always say come and look at the car first. You may like it. You may not like it.

As it happens every time I have sold a car the first prospective buyer to come and view has bought the car outright. I do try to make the description accurate.

But offering without viewing really is a stab in the dark.

If I were buying I would try to get a feel for the car and seller and then either offer full upfront payment to the agreed value and collection by trailer or go and view the car. And then offer.

I got the point, don't worry. Just that I wouldn't even flippantly offer a penny under his price on the more than likely basis he'd accept it. hehe

IF the car is as described then i actually think it's an alright price.

Low mileage (for that engine), 2001 car runs fine, new brakes, good tyres, long T&T and LPG for £1,800 - not too bad even if it is tatty.

I know the point of this thread is about the attitude of the seller, but even so hehe

He will likley bump the price up with some shill bidding.

That aside, is he trying to circumvent the rules on ebay by stating what he wont take for it, is this the same as what he will take for it without saying it. i know ebay will remove ads if they think they are trying to sell outside their system so losing revenue.
