Mounting TV on wall and cable solutions?

Evening all,

I'm just about to have the new telly i've bought put on the wall and i'm wondering what the best solution for cable management will be.

I plan to have whatever I choose either cut into the wall or whatever is needed to have them invisible.

The telly has 4xHDMI sockets and obviously power. The power cable is tiny so no worries there but i need all 4 HDMI sockets.

I've had a browse and i think an HDMI plate on the wall wired to all 4 ports on the TV is the way i want to go.

Obviously i want no drop in quality. Has anyone any experience of these?

Also, the TV is 3D. I plan to buy a Bluray 3D player and the chap in the shop told me i need a cable that will support 3D. Any truth in this?

As far as I'm aware, HDMI 1.4 is the standard that supports 3D. This cable will still only cost £10 or so, so don't let them bully you in to buying some £60 rubbish.

If you have an AV Receiver you won't need a plate as you'll only need one HDMI from the Amp to the TV and everything else plugs in to the amp, otherwise you will need an HDMI cable for each device that plugs in to the TV, so a plate would be an option

Thanks. I don't have an AV receiver but it was something i was considering. Any suggestions? I would like to have as little kit as possible. I seem to remember yamaha releasing one recently.

If i do go for the wall plate option i guess i should just wire it all for 1.4?

ETA: Seen this on ebay - seems cheap, too cheap??

Replying to my own thread here but never mind.

Just had a chap leave that i asked to come round and quote to do the whole thing.

He can mount the telly, run my sky cables and fit a brush wall plate all for a shade under £200. I suggested having a plate on the wall to plug the HDMI cables into but he said that there would be soldering involved and it's a nightmare.

So allowing for bullst and the way way out we met half way and i insisted on no cables being visible and moving the power sockets out of the way too.

So i've booked him for next week to come and do the whole lot, just need to buy some 1.4 cables.

You could run 2x hdmi 1.4 and your power, then use a hdmi switch ?

Those would work but that' £100 on sockets alone. This living room 'makeover' is already costing me a fortune.

As far as a switch is concerned is there any quality degradation?

Your installer has given you the best option, don't use plates, you are just adding more problems. You should ask your installer to chase in a conduit so you can pull in more cables if needed. The power socket does not need to be behind the TV, this may cause mounting issues, just run in an extension cable to a socket a low level.
