Porsche 997 Turbo noise
Discussion
Hi,
This is my first post on here and I wanted to provide some information I could not find before my Trackday visit Saturday 12th Nov 2011.
To my surprise a standard 2007 997 Turbo with 6000 miles didn't pass a static 98db noise test at Goodwood ( mine was 100.5 on 1st test and 99.5 on 2nd test )
They let me on the track subject to the drive by testing stations set at 96 db. Once the track dried out I was called in as the car was regularly setting them off at 96.1 to 97 db. There is enough to think about just trying to keep the beast on track without worrying where and when to back off / change up gear for these noise meters. I was asked and agreed to leave slightly early on the day.
I hope this information is helpful to anyone looking to take a similar car on a 98db limited track. ( Also highly recommend driving tuition as this motor handles very differently to front / mid engined cars )
Thanks

Thanks, there was another standard 996 Turbo there on the day which was at 99 db static although no problems with drive by rate of 96db. The 'noise testers' on the day confirmed the Porsche turbos often 'struggle' especially with the sport button engaged. I'll get mine checked out to make sure everything is as it should be. Goodwood is a great track and I would like to go back if possible.

I'd have said no problem at 96! They must measure from the marshall's post or something.
