Who'd Believe It: Cops Slam Speed Cam Claims
Discussion
MILTON Keynes Police has slammed a report which claims speed cameras have made no difference in reducing casualties.
Thames Valley Police tops a nationwide league table of seemingly unjustified locations according to new figures released by the Department of Transport (DoT).
But police say a national newspaper report is rubbish claiming that injuries and deaths have actually gone DOWN 43 per cent since speed cameras were introduced.
The study shows that of the 211 camera sites reported in TVP, which includes MK, 97 of them actually saw the casualty rate increase.........

Hi Dan!
Campsall said: "The Daily Telegraph report is a load of bunk.
"There's no way you could draw their conclusions from the data they had available. There are all sort of complications.
"On the same day the newspaper published its report, a much more authoritative one was released by the University College of London.
"This showed that when our cameras were being used, the number of serious injuries or deaths in Thames Valley had gone down by 43 per cent."

This, presumably, is the Telegraph article:
More people killed at many speed camera sites
By Paul Marston, Transport Correspondent
(Filed: 16/06/2004)
About a quarter of speed cameras have made no effective contribution to road safety, according to official figures released by the Department for Transport yesterday.
The first detailed analysis of camera sites, recording casualty rates before and after the equipment was installed, showed that numbers of accident victims had risen rather than fallen at hundreds of locations.......
