Interesting thread 'price of your first house', as a follow on would you buy a house anywhere in Europe including U.K. right now?

As the owner of a house and mortgage in France (as well as UK) - it's certainly interesting times.

And no, at this time I wouldn't invest in the Eurozone. You'd have to be certified!

True enough, so extend Europe to include Russia and the like.

Yes I would and am. The UK, right now. Sure in a decade I may look back and dispair at the financial cost, but right now I'm getting older, the family is getting bigger and decisions need to be made. If only I was ten years further ahead I wouldn't be so exposed - but I can't help that.

Would love to buy on in Finland... In fact I would like to invest in the OH's Great Aunties house when her time finally comes (she is 92 now) to keep it in the family.

Especially as I can see us moving there when her parents get older and what makes it nice is that all the property in about a 1 mile radius is owned by the immediate family and this one will probably come up when there is not enough monies in the family to cover it.

It needs quite a bit of renovation on the place, below is the property in question

right now? no, in a year or so then probably. following prices in the nicer suburbs of amsterdam on the outskirts of the canal belt. i see myself settling there in 5 or so years and would rent it out til then.

prices in berlin have long been low, but i can't see myself being able to find work there. shame as i really like the city and my euros would go further.

Considering a coastal place in Cornwall as BTL and to claim some respite from the ME summer.

Can't see myself going back to the UK for a while now but I would like my children to have some sort of reference as 'home' to beat the expat gypsy syndrome.

Considered Dubai earlier in the year as I hate paying rent. They have now finally stopped building new housing developments but the population is rising and will eventually overtake supply (in the 3/4 bed+ sector) again as builders cannot get finance. Too much risk of reduction or mid term stagnation at the moment though and everything I looked at was shoddy too.

With interest rates low, would mortgages not be a good buy at the moment?

Are there any low rate fixed mortgages available?

Trackers too risky?
Is the bank of England going to raise interest rates a lot over the next 10 years?

I'd hazzard a guess that this new level of economic growth for the western countries is here for a good while and therefore interest rates could well be low for a long time.

(but then I'm no expert I have to point out)

Its absolutely amazing when the snow is out, I go there every year for new year for the past 4 years and to be honest even with all the short comings of Finland with expenses, taxes, 6months of very little light and it getting down to -25 degrees.... It has grown on me and I can see myself moving across there.

Below is a picture from last winter of us borrowing a lodge nearby for sausage cooking (aka entertain the english person) after a bit of trekking.

+1 If you can sell what you have & find what you want at the RIGHT PRICE it's a great time to buy IMO. Noel's Armageddon hasn't happened(& won't IMO). Rates are going no where fast.

WoW!!!!!!!!! and of course I would imagine that home insulation and decent heating (stoves) with that very heavy roof insulating snow, its very cosy. Roaring fire and a few nips, just perfect.
