They just don't quit, do they?

They were on strike the same time last year because they didn't get triple time + a lieu day.

The Unions have just secured a four-year deal which will see driver's basic take home pay rise to £52,300 a year by 2015 (a 10 grand increase), but they're at it again...

After the Olympics, can we just call their bluff and tell them to f--- off? Then hire a bunch of new drivers to turn the dead man's handle and halve their wages.

Oh, and reducing their wages will mean it doesn't cost £8 for a zone 1-2 travelcard irked

How do I apply?

Seriously. I'm a mug doing what I do for what I get paid if this is what they get. Leaving aside the pay and bonuses Christ knows how expensive it would be for me to try to match their pension pot.

Short, succinct, and absolutely bang on. Debate it as much as you wish, it all comes down to this single word.

My guess is that the trains will go driverless after sportsday.

They dont even drive the things anymore, just push button and occasionally keep their eye on things.

Just conductors really.

Utterly speechless.

Advert in the paper: "Come and drive a train for £30k/year". Train thousands of willing, happy applicants. Sack all union enthusiasts.

Simples.

I should add, it's not so much about the money before someone says "You're all just jealous", it's the total arrogance and indifference shown by the union and its members that grates.

I don't think a train driver is worth £52k, I'll state that now, however if they actually realised how fking well off they are and didn't keep biting the hand that feeds.

The London Assembly ought to put a vote to the people of London whether they want to continue with this ad infinitum or put up with a month or two of hassles and pains to crush this union once and for all.

The simple fact is that the people of London can outlast a small troublesome union.

We get what we deserve. I have a pair of good shoes and no problem walking to work or cycling or whatever for as long as it took to break them and drive them onto the doll queues or new contracts.

We really must stop paying people off, it never, ever works. All people are just like the Greeks, if you keep giving they will keep taking.

Rail worker here, non-LUL

I'm unsure if people are aware of the massive fines that the services will receive if they don't operate to the demands during the games, you would be amazed at the amount being spent on the ECML alone, they really are stting it about failures.

Unfortunately they can now play off against the fines by demanding massive wages and bonuses as the fines will far outweigh the wage bill.

Network Rail have no such stuff going on and its business as usual all we have been asked to do is not have annual leave if we can help it and volunteer to help out at stations etc.

Its weird, uncle bob seems to have little power now with Network Rail he got walked all over in the last dispute.

I imagine with the games out of the way LUL will go to town with scrapping oyster card and going down a new payment method, contact-less bank card iirc, doing away with just about all ticketing equipment and support staff then move onto driver-less trains.

the majority of the people who go on the tubes will not be on near 52k plus a final salary pension which is worth about £15k per year so their package is around £70k before they even start. Not a bad job if you ask me.

Don't forget the 2 months paid holiday (43 days a year).

I think the £52k is average pay. I suspect it wouldn't take much overtime to get that number up quite nicely.
