We get those who use sniper rifles as they are intended but are then flamed for camping and then there are those who use sniper rifles for quick scoping and showboating.

IMHO I think they are ruining modern combat games like MW2, MW3 and BlackOps but what do others think? Is quick scoping really in the spirit of the game?

They can be annoying when you come across a good one but on MW3 after having it since launch I've rarely seen many doing it. Or I've had people doing who are pants and they fire at me 2 times and miss so I just run up to them and stab them.

I do this and drag scoping. I only ever use sniper rifles, at range or close up (with a secondary of course). Ohh and im also proficient at shooting unscoped. Ive also headshot huey pilots (moving at speed) on BC2 Vietnam. I also often get double kills (with 1 shot) and even had a quad kill (with 1 shot) on DOD:source.

I often get accused of cheating. But it seems im just lame lol

Yes, my 11 year old nephew does it all the time and i keep telling him to play properly. I have dumped COD for this reason as there are too many kids online.

Battlefield 3 is a little more protected as EA put age protection on their accounts.

yea, what's that all about?

There's a lot of cry baby snipers on battlefield wanting all of their guns to be a one shot kill at all ranges if you hit any part of your target.

The funniest bit is they use the "one shot, one kill" mantra, as if that is the rule for the gun, not the person behind the trigger.

Drag Scoping is scoping while still moving the centre of my screen into position and firing as soon as I think im on the head hit box.

I also understand how hitboxes, lag compensation work and use these too my advantage. Shooting slightly behind people or ahead. Hit boxes sometimes arent where the player is.

I also adjust my mouse sensitivity on the fly (take some getting used too)

I have been known to bunny hop and move around in random patterns in order to not get hit.

Their is also a nice knack to bullet dodging aswell which takes experience, ie prediction of reload time and likelyness of a sniper firing and moving so they miss.

TBH im not a great fan of 1 shot sniper rifles, 1 shot headshot is enough for me.

Why do I play like this? Because I can and it works for me. I am also quite fond of Assualt rifles but they never have decent scopes.

Gets on my wick a bit, but it's not spoiling the game per se. It's part of the game I guess.

I'd probably do it if I was any good at it, it's inevitable that people will use all the options and exploits available to their advantage. If the devs didn't want it in the game it wouldn't be there, so by it being there we can assume it's part of the game, like it or not. If they're camping in the same spot relentlessly it gets tiresome, but that's what grenades are for. If you're daft enough to keep running at them from the same place repeatedly then you'll get peed off fast, but there's not many maps that have perfect sniping spots without other means of getting to them - most I can think of, like that building at the top of the street on Bakaara, have 2 or 3 areas you can approach from.

What bothers me more is getting killed by people I'm clearly playing way better than - nothing more annoying than getting killed by the chap at the bottom of the list on the other team who has 1 kill and 15 deaths, when you're at the top of the list with 10:1 K/D hehe It's usually because I've cocked up or the [in MW3's case] crap melee didn't catch them

Does quick scoping rely on the fact the xbox / ps3 versions of the game have a slight snap to aim helper?

Quick scoping is all about that.
It'll snap to the head of a target if you are close enough.
Quick scoping is pulling the trigger fractionally after Aim Down Sights as it will put the cross hairs right on the head.
You'll see it on kill cams where the shot and hit has occurred before the scope view has appeared.

Thanks. I've been a hardcore PC gamer right back from Counter Strike, all my friends are on PS3 so I've been trying to get along with a borrowed copy of MW2 and I just hate using a pad.

Been looking at the PS3 keyboard adaptors, but that somehow feels like cheating...

But what is it that you refer to? The sniper rifle is a sniper rifle the it you refer to is using the sniper rifle out of context and presumably wracking up the controller sensitivity to speed up the aimimg and firing process to obtain the rapid "Quick scoping" technique. Including a sniper rifle in the game is not intended for exploitation I would suggest but to add an element of tension into a game, tention that comes from being sniped not QS'd.
