I've just bought this very car.....Badges included!

Any horror stories to share? I assume this thread was a dig at an ex-pistonheads owner?

Haha, not at all! You bought this from Jamie I presume?

I work with him and put this up when he bought it.

Very quick car! No horror stories that I know of.

Ah i see! Thought you might have known the previous owner to Jamie too.

Quick car indeed. 1 or 2 things to sort but cant complain at all. Hadnt even considered one until featured in a SOTW thread a few months ago.

I'm not an 'Ex-Fiat Coupe owner from Honiton', but a new Fiat Coupe owmner from Honiton. A silver (Steel Grey) one like the featured car too! I also partially blame the SOTW feature for my purchase. Top car though.

I'm an ex-coupe owner from Bournemouth, sold mine a couple of weeks ago and bought a Panda 100Hp.

If you've not already joined the Fiat Coupe Forum, do so right now, it is an awesome source of information, advice and parts.

Please remove the Abarth badge - it's a travesty only beaten by sticking prancing horse badges on it.

The Fiat Coupe never had anything to do with Fiat's 'tuning' arm - it was already quicker than anything that ever came out of Turin (before, or since)

If you want to play with its identity, better to de-badge it altogether and let people wonder what the hell it is, right up to the point where you leave them for dead... wink

Believe me im trying. I've been browsing the guest forums so recognise pstruck (steel coupe in your sig?) and Nigel_O as names from there. But want to get into the more detailed sections of the board that are locked down to guests.

However, i can't seem to get registered for love nor money! Have tried 3 seperate email addresses (doesn't accept my hotmail, googlemail, or work email). Have just tried to register via a Virginmedia email address i never even knew i had but im running out of options.

Enjoying ownership thus far. Engine is reassuringly familar in a way after messing around with turbocharged engines from the 90s before (C20LET, SR20DET). Fitting a new thermostat (car takes FOREVER to get up to temp) and grooved & drilled front discs (mtec) this weekend to compliment the Ferrodo DS2500s. Also got to investigate the boost control as getting a huge midrange spike (1.6/1.7 bar). Plumbing the compressor directly to the actuator in a second which will hopefully tell me the actuator is fine and its actually the crappy turbosmart copy MBC causing the issue.

Badges & stickers are on the list to remove!

Cheers Nigel. Much appreciated. I think it was largely your posting in the SOTW thread earlier in the year that got me looking at them! Got to say these 5 cylinder turbos sound amazing cool

Just removed the PRV and plugged the actuator into the compressor directly. Boosts at 0.8bar throughout the range, no spiking. Which perhaps suggests a stiffer actuator/adjusted actuator? Or a fubar boost gauge! Thoughts? I'll create a thread in fccuk when i'm approved. I'll get some vac hose over the weekend and go back to standard EBV and see how that controls the boost. If thats still no use i intend to buy a single piece brass PRV.

Previous problem for context : Mid-range boost spike in 3rd/4th/5th gear of approx 1.7 bar. Dropping off to 1.2/1.1ish up towards the red line. No amount of adjustment on the turbosmart PRV copy changed these levels. The PRV was fitted correctly by the looks of things (2 part PRV, vented controller + t piece valve between act/comp/controller lines)

Spec is : Gtech2, large FMIC, 3" downpipe, unknown catback (anyone recognise the tailpipe design?), K&N induction, Walbro, Fuel pump wiring direct feed, grade 7 plugs, 3.2 GTA clutch, PRV (removed).

Firstly, your registration at FCCUK is sorted - it didn't like your Hotmail address (we don't allow Hotmail - too many spammers taking money off our community)

Secondly, a few bits of advice:-

1.7 bar is way too high, even only as a spike - you shouldn't even be getting that far, as there's supposed to be a fuel cut-off at 1.5 bar. You'll melt something VERY quickly at that level of boost, especially as the weather is warming up

Sort the boost control - even a basic PRV / PBV should hold the boost steady after an initial spike. You should get something like 1.3 bar peak, settling immediately to 1.2 bar, dropping to 1 bar at the redline

Seeing as you're near(ish) to Bristol, I strongly recommend spending the cash on a live-map from FC Performance. Leighton has mapped my car many times and he's managed to keep it perfectly driveable, despite the fact I'm running more than double the original bhp. He'll make it much nicer to drive, more powerful, more torquey AND you'll get better mpg

The final bit of advice (which you'll get repeatedly in your early days on FCCUK) - check the oil - weekly. Get into the habit and don't ever be tempted not to check it. I've been on FCCUK for well over a decade now and we've seen dozens and dozens of cars go to the scrappy due to neglect of the oil level. They can easily burn up to a litre per 1,000 miles (any more and something is up) so even if you change the oil at half the recommended 12,000 miles, you could run the sump dry. Don't be tempted to skimp on the oil quality either - Coupes love decent quality fully-synthetic. I use Mobil1 10W60 - some use Millers 10W60, others use a good 15W50. Very few people go anything lighter than 10W40.

Enjoy - treat the car well and you'll have HUGE fun, but neglect it and it'll be a hateful money-pit

Thanks for the help in getting my account registered Nigel. Appreciated.

Advice taken as intended. Certainly don't think 1.7 bar over boost is cool hence my efforts to diagnose and resolve the problem. Goes relatively well at 0.8bar boost now. Will plumb back in the EBV and see how that performs. If not if will be new PRV time.

From reading the board a Flea live map is deffo on the cards later down the line. I'd like a hybrid turbo to make the most of the journey though. Will keep a close eye on oil levels between changes.

Quick update...

- Drilled & grooved discs fitted (judder gone - much better pedal feel)
- New Thermostat fitted & coolant changed (car warms up much quicker - MPG should be better too)
- Scratched centre console carbon wrapped (3M Di-noc "dry" look carbon - surprisingly nice)
- New MBC fitted (1.35 bar overboost, 1.2 bar held, 1 bar after 6k+ rpm - Perfect)
- Abarth badges/PH sticker/Nurburg sticker all removed
- Power run & fueling check booked

Next on the agenda - sort out the front bumper/FMIC fixings. Few snaps from today...

Well done - car is beginning to look and go better.

A word of caution - beware of modding a Coupe - its a VERY slippery slope and will empty your wallet, your bank account and your credit cards with alarming ease.

Despite the fact that I run well over 400bhp, I'm still firmly of the opinion that 320 - 350 bhp will create a car thats just as fast (as the turbo will be smaller and more punchy from lower revs)

Good to see you on FCCUK - loads of info and help on there
