This happened today.
On the way back from the gym because I'm trying to become powerfully built and I decide to go for a hoon round some of the local country lanes.
Some brilliant roads round here.
I was driving up a straight and caught up to an old couple in an Astra van doing 30mph on a NSL road. The road is wide enough for two.
I get ready for an overtake, drop to 3rd, ease off for a few seconds so that by the time I'm near them I have plenty enough momentum to just breeze past with no hassle. I got along side them and he just looked and turned into me, I had to go up gravel/mud on the outside to escape being hit. I didn't back out and carried on accelerating and they were flashing the lights at me and the old man gave me the Vs.
Completely unnecessary and hugely dangerous.
Now this has happened to a friend of mine too and no doubt it has happened to some of you, why do people act like such wkers?

  • Edit, try to imagine the Schumacher Barichello incident last year. Was like that.

I think it is to do with the hate of overtaking that people have in this country, people seem to think if you do it you are a lunatic endangering everybody including all the children in the world.

In mainland Europe that attitude seems to be "fair play, if you crash and burn it's your fault"

I don't recall overtaking being discussed when I was taking lessons so it seems to be considered a naughty thing to do.

That type of people really wind me up, worse are the ones that will do 40 in a NSL, then continue at 40 when it drops to a 30 but think they are very safe drivers.

You wont get there any faster..!

hehe

ETA: OP since you are training to be powerfully built did you not consider stopping and having a word with the other driver? Maybe not the best idea but probably what i would have done and im not even slightly powerfully built.

Did you clock his reg? Report him?

If you're lucky, plod will go round his house and tell him off, and it just might stop him from doing it to someone else and causing a serious accident.
I didn't sadly. It never even crossed my mind until about half hour ago.

furious A guy I used to work with used to say that, one night we were going ot the pub after work and I was behind him for a bit and got frustrated at his lack of "pressing on" so overtook him, when we got to the pub, he came up to me in front of everyone and said "you didn't get there any quicker did you?" it was at this time I pointed out that technically I did as I got into the carpark before him whereas had I not overtaken him it would have been after him, he still couldn't grasp it though.
