My Mondeo mk3 130 estate

So, long time reader of the forums and thought I’d add a bit about the Mondeo i bought to replace the missus Fiesta.
I got this car as an ex company pool car from the company I work for. It was originally bought for manager before he upgraded and it became a pool car an came up for auction last year with a few problems, mainly a bonnet that was found to be stuck shut when the car went to be valleted before the auction and the fact that the windscreen had a chip in it.
Anyway I had a quick look on the TalkFord the bonnet problem in and found it was pretty common and an easy free fix most times so i through a bid in and got it for £2200
Quite pleased with it 06 plate 110k but all motorway, every service stamp but was due a service soon.

Auto lights
Auto wipers
Puddle lights
Footwell lights
Elec drivers seat
Sony sound system with steering wheel control
Cruise control
As i got it
Rang ford to ask about the price of a service to keep the stamps up but after asking what they actually did for the £225 they wanted to charge me I decided we would probably keep the car for long enough that a missing stamp wouldn’t really be a major problem.
Ford would only do the air filter, oil filter, pollen filter and oil. Now i’ve always serviced my own cars and this is the newest car I’ve owned but I thought they would do more than that on a service.
So I ordered a load of parts from Opie Oils and got on with replacing/changing the below
Engine Oil
Oil filter
Air filter which was very dirty
Pollen filter
Fuel filter
PAS oil
Anti freeze
Clutch/Brake fluid
Gearbox oil (Drain plugs is a daft place on the 6 speeders)
Grease Gear change cables
And then all the usual checks
Filthy air filter
Car after a bit of a wash
Also managed get a few bit sorted on it to smarten it up a bit and make it better for the missus job which at the time was working as nurse in the community so I added a parrot hands free as she’s always on the phone at work and had one in the old festa, also rubbed down the front and back rubbing strips and painted them silver to match.
Not got a picture but when I got the car my grandma said she had a boot liner for an old Mondeo in her garage, so I went to have a look at and was well pleased with what she had. It was a full boot and back seat liner (for when the back seats are folded down) but for a MK2 Mondeo. Anyway a quick chop chop with the jigsaw and a bit of “U” trim got me sorted with a full fibre glass boot liner that fits the Mk3 perfectly. Finally I bought a genuine Ford dog guard as we had just got a Labrador (Cheaper than kids)
Also replaced all the interior lights with 6000k 3w LED bulbs and swopped the 501 puddle lights for 9x6000k 3W LED panels in each side.
So smoked about in it for a bit literally before I got fed up with the smoke and went to look at the common problem of the EGR blocking up and pleased i did as it was well blocked, must have been all them motorway miles on part throttle.

With the above all cleaned out the low end torque of the car was improved no end not to mention another 5mpg
Few month ago a wanted to get some better wheels for the car so won some tit-x rims on ebay and went to pick them up in the dark and came away with what looked like 4x18” diamond cut rims
Nice
Not so nice
But what i got was 2 good ones and 2 welded ones, although all 4 had good tyres on so i took them off and sold the rims on ebay for nearly the same money (welds declared) and bought some 18” anthracite wheels off a Focus with diamond cut centre caps.
How the car looks now on the new wheels.
I know its not the most exciting car on here but it means my P&J can stay in the garage when the weathers crap.

Had a set of snow tyres fitted to the old 16" rims ready for winter today.
Picked the snow tyres up for £220 they are date marked november last year and the guy said they had only been fitted in jan when it snowed and that they had probably had less than 1000m use, which i can beleve as they still have the bobbly bits on.
Also managed to sell the old part worn P Zeros that were on the 16" rims on ebay for £100 so including fitting the snow tyres only cost me £150 which i'm pleased with.
Pirelli Sottozeros on the old 16" rims ready for the white stuff.
And a few pics of the new puddle lights with the LED pannels fitted

I cant fault mondeos - mine is coping with the mileage and sheer weight i carry day to day (it tips the scales are over 2ton) as well as the load on the charging system
The puddle lights were they an easy thing to swap as the puddle lights on my funbus seem to be a bit dim and its something ive thought of swapping for a while
If you have a Euro3 engine instead of the euro4 i would get a blanking kit for the EGR valve (The Euro3 does not have wires going to the egr but the euro4 does) I know it make a heck of a difference blanking my EGR completely
In regards to the heated seat query i think all the cabling is inplace - you just need a switch and the heated seat but that is just from memory, i cant put the leather seats in mine as they would be damaged - Dont know if you have seen the ford wiki - http://www.fordwiki.co.uk/index.php?title=Category... but this is a fantastic resource for odd little issues
BTW if your aux tensioner stars making a racket they all do that eventually, it does not doa ny harm it just sounds awful at tickover but you can solve it by replacing the belt, tensioner and crankshaft pulley

I have thought about blanking off the EGR valve but just abit worried about blocking off something Ford put there for a reason. Also mine seams to be a euro 3.5 as it has a vacuum pipe and then a sensor to make sure it has moved, its certainly not a euro 4. Might give it a go and see if I get a light on the dash.
After doing abit of research on the drumming noise at idle, most people sealed to be of the opinion that if it was intermittent then it was mostly ok, ours was for a bit then went continuous so I bought the tension, belt and puppy kit and swapped it all. Just sounds like a normal diesel now.
The puddle lights were an easy job to do you just use a small flat blade screw driver to prize the lenses and holder out then I cut throught the holder with a junior hack saw on 3 sides and carefully open it up using the 4th side as a hinge just enough to slide the panel in and poke the wire through the hole then i just stuck the 3 sides down with superglue and pushed them back in, they've been in 10months now with no problems.

Cheers for the link - yea the drumming noise can be annoying but its not too much of an issue, i have to keep an eye on it due to the load the alt puts on it (Im charging 7 batterys and can pull nearly 400amps from them pretty much instantly from charging system load but the stock 130amp alt but it copes as long as i dont keep that up for too long)After doing abit of research on the drumming noise at idle, most people sealed to be of the opinion that if it was intermittent then it was mostly ok, ours was for a bit then went continuous so I bought the tension, belt and puppy kit and swapped it all.
