Mini Cooper D Clubman

Well after owning the MX-5 for more than 2 years it finally came to it that I got a job where I needed to drive a reasonable distance daily. I'm now doing 90 miles a day and unfortunately the MX-5 just isn't economical nor comfy enough to do that in!
So, I've tucked it up in the garage where it can stay for the winter and then become a weekend car, and bought something that's hopefully going to be a nice place to be when I'm on the way to work at 4 in the morning, as well as being a bit more economical!

The "combined" figure is 68mpg. The combined figure on the MX-5 is 34 and i've averaged 33mpg over 40,000 miles, so fingers crossed I can achieve somewhere near that! (actually anything more than the MX-5 would be great!)wackojacko said:

Thanks - it's really nice!Well I picked it up on Thursday and i've done around 400 miles since. OBC is showing 54mpg over that time and pump to pump figures suggest slightly less but I'm very happy with it. It seems really at home on the motorway cruising but on a B road it ain't half bad either.
The Xenons are fabulous and the seats are amazingly comfy. Good so far!

Very nice! A question if you don't mind: was there a particular reason you chose the clubman over say the normal shaped MINI? I feel your pain vis fuel costs of the mx-5, it isn't ideal really!
Believe it or not I actually prefer the look of the Clubman to the "normal" MINI. They're also slightly cheaper generally for similarly specced vehicles.rfn said:

I must say the shape has grown on me, it's gone from looking utterly ridiculous to almost cheekily quirky now and a cheaper purchase price is never a bad thing. 
I agree there at first I wasn't too keen on the Clubman nor the Countryman now I like both and I'm considering a counryman as my next everyday car to sit along side my classic Minisbakerstreet said:

The fictional figure is 68 combined, OBC says 54, pump to pump suggests 52.5 over the first 400 miles. As said above, cruising on the motorway between 75-80, with a fair amount of town driving and stop start, traffic etc. A nice "combined" tankful. Oh, and quite a lot of "nailing it" because I'm used to the punch of the MX-5!

In the current climate, you must be pretty ppleased with 52.5mpg average How are you getting on with it ? Im thinking of getting one for my mum in the new year as she has a forry ATM and the 22 mpg on it and the maintinace bills are doing her head in, my R53 is race tuned and even it manages 40 mpg on the motorway, clubby has grown on me a lot and i know how to service them and i have a trade parts ac so that should bring the running costs right down

Race Tuned??? I have a 2002 Mini Cooper S and I don't think it ever achieved 40mpg.
