Are 996 gt3's over priced?
Discussion
Sold my 996tt x50 recently and been keeping an eye on the gt3 Market over the last few months....it seems to me that good cars with nice spec and sensible miles which last year would have been gone in 2 weeks are just sitting for months on end.
Obviously there's a recession on etc but surely that should mean the price should correct itself to a level where they start to sell again. I offered 40k on a 04 comfort with 26k yesterday and was laughed at.
Opinions?

Track season over is probably the reason you're seeing them hanging around. It does mean you might pick up a bargain as traditionally winter is always the best time to buy price wise, maybe wait until further into the cold weather to pick up the best bargain. I do get the impression that GT3s are owned by people who generally don't need to sell in a hurry, holding out for best price regardless of off season dips etc, just my opinion though.

They certainly hold their value better than Carreras and so can appear expensive in comparison. But they can't be "overpriced" as the price is determined by Supply and Demand!Obviously there's a recession on etc but surely that should mean the price should correct itself to a level where they start to sell again. I think another factor is the fact that the GT3 engine is free from all of the gremlins that scare owners from long term ownership of 996/7 models.
This makes them a much better prospect as a long term "keeper".
The other consideration is that they are such stonking good cars that owners find it difficult to find a better drive, and hence need to be bribed to part with them.

A good 996 GT3 is not over priced if its got a full service history &
been maintain to high standard and all the usual consumables done and not crashed. assuming its not silly money.
But a bad one if highly priced would be obviously.
A cars worth as much as anyone wants to pay for it and if everyones happy
with the price paid then no problem.
The word is they will be the next model to start to go up in the near future
as most other Porsche rare exotic has gone up in value.
So find a good one and who knows. Just have it checked and find out as much as possible about its history and life.
Best of all you will enjoy a GT3 even if it does not make a few quid.

I think this is what is keeping them priced strongly - The Next Big Thing.as most other Porsche rare exotic has gone up in value.
Question is, will that actually happen? I dont think that it will (Not yet anyway), due to the 997 GT3. There are plenty of these about and lots are selling for low 50's. I think we will see these drop below 50k next year and it MUST affect 996 GT3 prices surely.
Whilst the 996 is rarer, I believe that most would prefer a 997.
The 996RS is totally different discussion!

Yes I think I agree they wont reach the dizzy heights of 964 Rs
993 Rs and so on. But i think they will climb a little as there
really is not anything much else out there Porsche wise except for maybe
the 996Rs as you say and the 996 GT2 also.
But what ever. You will certainly enjoy your time in a GT3 no matter
what model.

I've no idea what will happen to prices, but for what it's worth I preferred my mk1 996 to the one mk 1 997 I tried. Maybe people who feel similarly help hold up prices, as will the lower numbers produced.
The 997 was an excellent example, was gorgeous, went like stink and is probably a much better road car than mine, but my beloved yellow car is so much of an event that I honestly can't think what I'd replace it with. 997 GT3s included. Part of that is because the 997 was that much quicker, something I don't think is necessary for me. Maybe that makes me weird, though :-)

Some crystal ball you have there. What makes you so sure?Decent 7GT3's unlikely to be under £50k, ever.
Decent 7.2 GT3's unlikely to be under £65k, ever
- assuming things not hugely altered to today's circumstances & IMO

What did you not like about the 7.1 GT3 over the 6.1 GT3?I keep finding myself looking at changing my MK1 to a 997.1.
GT3's (or RS's for that matter) are a market unto themselves. No one would scrap a tired GT3 in, for arguments sake, 15 years time - it would be restored. Why? Well for starters it's a 911, a specialty 911, and created in few numbers. It's a brilliant steer with a great reputation, both on the road and in its racing acheivements.
Over priced? No. Not when compared with anything else in the league of supercars.
A brilliant car is brilliant period. Assuming well maintained it would still induce grins in 20 years time, so will never lose appeal or desirability. If anything the effects of nostalgia would boost its appeal in the future.

There wasn't anything I didn't like about the 7.1, really, other than it felt like it needed more speed to really come alive. Speed that isn't too acceptable on the road! They are incredible cars, though, and probably better in every objective measure.
I'd p'raps sum it up with my 6.1 just feeling a bit more "alive" and less like a normal 911 turned up to 11.
My old GT3 feels properly special. Special in a way that made driving a '61 plate C2S back-to-back with it feel broken and woolly. Almost the same feeling I had going from a friend's 996 C4 to his Golf after 2k miles in Europe. Not as sharp, rubbery change quality, that sort of thing.
