Came out to my car this morning to find a silver golf parked literally about 4 inches from my rear bumper, and on it's way into the impossibly tight space, it removed some paint and plastic from the corner of my rear bumper.

The golf had more paint missing than remaining on it's bumpers, despite being 12 months old, so I can only assume that touch parking is a common occurence for the owner.

I left them a note with my number on, asking them to call me to arrange a repair, but needless to say I haven't heard anything yet.

I took down their registration number, so is there anyway I can trace their name and address from this so I can write them a letter?

Thanks

Chris

I believe it's possible through the DVLA for a good reason, like this.

Or complaining via the police .. although I doubt they'd give you the address.

Did you get some photos?

2 ways to do it..

1) Report the RTC (Road Traffic Collision) to the police. If the driver failed to report the accident to the police within 24hrs, he commits an offence.

2) I believe for a small fee (£10, I think), the DVLA will consider such cases and supply the details of the owner of the other vehicle. I've known about this for some time, but have never heard of anyone actually doing it, so I can't comment on how accurate this is.

It would depend on the how quickly the other car was found.

Paint scrapings will tip the burden of proof..

For a tenner they DVLA supplied me with a list of the (9!) previous owners of my car, including their names and addresses etc. So they are willing to part with this kind of info.

Providing history of something that is your property is very different from providing the registered home location of somebody elses property. I think you'll struggle to persuade them.

Cheers guys - it was in a residents parking area so I assume it is one of my neighbours.

Guess it is part and parcel of central London life, but still very annoying.

Will pop into the police station on my way home.

I guess I should have taken a photo, but I was running late and am not at my most switched on at that time of day.

To get the registered keeper information at the date of an event from DVLA, you simply complete a VQ3 form and send them a cheque for £2.50p. You may be asked information to validate who you are but I've done it on more than one occasion.
