On one hand I think its an awful teenagery idea.
On the other I think its actually a pretty good idea.
I often read posts where I feel like acknowledging the content but it is inapproriate as either 4 pages have been added since it so you are ressurecting a now-irrelevant post, or that you simply have nothing to add and don't want to do the utterly moronic "+1" or similar.
And more importantly I want to know that more than zero people are laughing at my usually hilarious posts.

This is pretty much exactly the reason I thought it would be a good idea... not to turn it into a Facebook "Like" kind of thing. More constructive than that.On the other I think its actually a pretty good idea.

It's a discussion forum
Not a rate-my-post forum.
Any sort of + or – feature will be abused in some way.
Either for trolls to attack certain people.
For cliques to (and I believe this is the correct phrase) big each other up.
Or for mates to have some comedy by voting down each others posts.
Do we really want the highest ranking post on PH to be one about the awesome Multipla based on a forum invasion from the Mulitpla owners club compounded by a large number of in house comedians voting for it too.
It's not about rating posts, so people can feel good about themselves. It's intent would be to help show peoples general feeling in a thread, about that discussion. Basically to say, whether you agree/disagree with that person.
Discussions wouldn't be effected, but sometimes you may want to show what you think about an individuals opinion, but maybe you don't have enough input at that point to warrant an actual written response.
Maybe it wouldn't be used properly as you say. There are trolls and the like who would abuse it, probably.
