McGovern is interviewed about it in this month's Car magazine - apparently Ratan Tata would put the DC100 into production as it is, hopefully someone else at LR has more sense ...

I actually like it. I don't really like it as a replacement to the original but as a car I think it looks really good!!!!

I guess JLR need to weigh up which part of the Landie market is most vital both now and going forward. Whether it is the commerical utility side or the liesure side.

As a liesure product I think it's a winner for the 21st century. If you could change it from jeep to 7 seater by adding and removing parts easily then I suspect there's a whole raft of people who would want something fun like this if it drives a bit more like a road car etc etc. For example, being confortable to drive it all the way to the south of France or up into the Alps wth all you kit and then use it as an open top jeep when down there etc.

On the commercial side, I can see versions being suitable still for clients such as utility companies or police forces etc, but I suspect customers like the British Army may fade away but I think that is happening anyway as Landies haven't stood up well to direct modern military service on the front line and the current fleet can be kept going for general and clerical work for decades.

Obviously, the bling bits are God awful but they'll be gone by production and I'm sure Kahn can add them back for the more 'classy' punter. biggrin

It's mentioned in the article (and has been discussed at length here and everywhere else), but foremost it needs to be attractive to the commercial sector (like the Defender used to be). Make sure it works for the utility companies, the farmers, the mining companies - take back the share of the market lost to the Japanese pick-ups by the Defender being too crude. Different wheelbases, different body options.

If it isn't capable of being used like this it will never be taken seriously.

It's a lot easier to make something useful fashionable rather than the other way around - no doubt they could sell tens of thousands of twinkly sub-Evoque fashion accessories to vacuous townies, but once the lease is up they'll be moving on to the next flashy bauble.

Don't make it look like a cross between a toy Skoda Yeti and a very camp cartoon frog either - less styling, more engineering.
