It's that time of year for me again so been shopping around for quotes as my current insurer wanted to hike my premium by £70 to £835 due to "all the payouts that the insurance industry have been making recently".

Isn't that their job??!?

I told them to s0d off.

Spoke to MSM Insurance recommended on the PH insurance wiki.

http://www.msminsurance.co.uk/

Not only did they come in nearly a couple hundred quid cheaper they also give 10% Pistonheads discount!

My policy is for: kept on the drive, fully comp with mods (intake/suspension) 10,000 miles a year (8000 domestic, 2000 class 1 business) not main vehicle

Well worth a call if your current insurance company want to sting you for more money on your renewal!

MSM are very good. My renewal this year on the T350 was £428, 7500 private miles, garaged in Cambs, 35 years old with 10 years NCB.

Yes the extra pay outs have been caused by the insurance companys.
They sell the accident data to solicitors thats why you get contacted after an accident..So the insurance companys are the course of the increased premiums ..

They get there cake and eat it.!

What did bug me when mannings took another £80 off me for breakdown cover when its only a extra £20 for older classic cars ..£100 for the MG and £20 more with the Breakdown cover..

And no breakdown of the insurance cover and legal cover on paper.! somethings not quite right!

confused

I'll second Direct Line ... Mine is £470 (ish) this year as my main car, parked in private driveway with 12,000 miles per year. (9 years NCD.)

Was impressed with Mannings dropping mine to £320 this year. 29 year old with 2yrs NCB, 5000 sdc miles, agreed value of £10k and garaged.
Plus they cover organised track days with no notification and only £100 increase in excess.

Was with MSM last year, 5K miles and garaged as 2nd car, changed to Adrian Flux this year for £440.
Premium up £90 on last years mainly thanks to uninsured oiks and those sore backs everyone automatically claims for.

The insurance companys are to blame ,they make millions every year by selling accident information to solicitors no win no fee type companys ..

Then they past the cost to us ..They are bcensoredds..

Just got my renewal paperwork through, no increase smile but no lower frown

£287.11 fully comp with 5000 miles (1994 4.0 HC)

Also a nice surprise in that i've accrued 1 years NCB, which I wasn't expecting as it's a limited mileage/second car policy.

I can't see the price being beaten (i'm 26, clean record with 6 years NCB on my daily) so might stick with the devil i know smile

Some companies just dont want the TVR business any more so it pays to shop around. As I am of a certain age I used to insure mine with Saga - mainly because they offer European cover without tedious green card application. They wont cover TVR now.
