wrapped my dial casing on carbon wrap

first time having a go at this ended up a tad short on so centred it up and joined at ech end as you can see slighty think i will give it another go with a bigger piece


alsi for those of you who want to turn down the buzzer sound on indicator her a cheeky wee pic

it been a costly one for me as i nacker my oil water gauge in the process of removing it i tried to remove cable at back of gauge na na you have to do it from engine bay under that front panel infront of engine silly me i will learn some day

Hi, I'm thinking of doing something similar myself, do the tell tale LEDs remove from their surrounds in some way to pass through the facia or do you have to desolder them from the PCB?

The pcb comes away as one piece with the led's soldered to it. The dash itself just has lenses on it so just have to remove them.

Looks good! I thought about doing this myself too.. But never really had the time or inclination to try and figure out how the dials come out!

The biggest headache as the OP says is removing the oil pressure/water temperature gauge. The capillary for the water temperature side of the gauge cannot be removed from the gauge itself, it's a sealed unit. The capillary must be first removed from the water pipe towards the front of the car, which in itself can be a pain. It then has to be fed through the hole in the dash all without causing any damage to it at all. Unfortunately, capillaries are quite delicate and the turnaround to repair these units is weeks at a fair old cost too.

Anyone thinking about changing their dash, etc please be very careful.

Right...that's put me off then.I've got one which is aluminium one side & carbon look.Was gonna try & do it myself.bit sounds too fiddley.Besides,I don't even know.how to get into/take off the binnacle!

yip i agree as i have learned the hard way but it will be very nice once back together as i wrapped it in a bigger piece and looks very nice

Brilliant post. I am thinking of doing this over winter and am very glad that you gave the details about the Water Temp Guage.

May I ask a couple more questions:

1) Where did you get your fake Carbon wrap from ?
2) How did you get the binnacle off. I have read that it is retained by two wingnuts. Is this all ?

Without meaning to hijack your thread OP, I'm wondering whether anyone knows of somewhere who either sells or will make up turned aluminium binnacles ala Griffith. Does anyone have this setup?

hi i bought it of ebay and is good stuff i used a hair dryer when applying it.

get youre head under steering wheel look up and you will see the two wingnuts and then remove the cowling then two screws which hold the dail plate on then you just disconnect all connections but you will have to remove the water temp sensor from engine bay and feed it back inside car and out through dail plate i ended up breaking mine cause i didnt do that way oops and cost me £90 from speedy cables but on the positve side i have a fresh gauge.once i get back into car a will take a picture with it all back in place looks well worth the hassle
