Citroen Dispatch: Clutch Release Bearing gone?

I'm getting a vibration up through the clutch pedal when the pedal is pressed.

It's a fairly low frequency dump-dump-dump-dump type feeling three or four times per second up through my leg.

There's also a bit of juddering when setting off in gear until the clutch pedal is fully released.

Do you think this is a thrust or release bearing problem?

Is it an engine out job to replace?

The van is a 2000 plate a 1.9 diesel.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like bent ,broken release fingers in the clutch cover only cure is replace clutch ALL of it inc bearing.Can be fairly involved but have seen them done on axle stands ! Local clutch specialist is far less painful and has some sort of warranty HTH

Oh gawd, don't say that... it's the last thing I need to hear right now.

Bit of an update, had to drive about 100km today and it seems worse than earlier, but if I push my foot right to the very bottom of the pedal and press as hard as I can the vibration seems to ease.

Releasing the pedal slowly (even in neutral) causes the vibration, and it's getting worse (of course, these things don't heal themselves).

I'm not afraid to rip and repair it myself, I'm just looking for some pointers as to what is involved and whether I could go at it on the drive at home in an afternoon or do I need to try and get a mate's garage lined up.

I've done a few engine rebuilds before mainly on motorcycles so I not scared of spanners.

Good luck mate ,I had same fault on a Fiat scudo van it lasted about 3/400 miles and disintigrated as I drove it to the garage we used who found it had shagged the fly wheel too !
