One less S

I didn't really come here that often, but I'll probably be here a lot less from now on after losing control on a corner and writing my S3 off. Just quibbling with the insurance company about the settlement now.

Really gutting since this year was the year I made it beautiful - clear front indicators, MX-5 door mirrors painted the same as the car and a bonnet respray.

Anyway - I've got a few bits and pieces to sell - is it bad form to say so?

Major bummer mate, gutted for you, we met a couple of years ago at Chatsworth TVR day and had a natter, as I say sorry to hear your news, at least you are ok, it is only a car at the end of the day.

Is it a total wreck or worth a buy back and rebuild. Its the repair labour that kills em for insurance purposes.

Cheers Tozerman - I remember that day. You're right about being physically OK - I was surprised I walked away without a scratch (thank heavens for energy-absorbing hedges rather than barriers). Only a few days later the wife saw an episode of 'Helicopter Heroes' where they were called out to cut a couple from a Cerbera who were pretty messed up.

Don't think the car is fixable - apart from the bonnet being badly smashed, the front n/s wheel was ripped from the chassis:



I never knew the bonnet has wood in it.

Maybe not as bad as it looks the wishbones tend to be a bit sacrificial, there my not be serious chassis damage, Phillpot is fixing similar damage on his S at the moment.
New bonnets and fitting are very expensive through insurance but if you have the time and a few skills it might be saved.

I did have a bonnet you could have had for 250 quid... Right up until a fire at the unit a month ago..... Lost loads of moulds too

A couple of people have PM'd me about parts from the car or selling it to them.

I don't have access to the car any longer, and I don't know what the score is. When the settlement is agreed, I have to pass V5/MOT cert to the insurers' so I guess it will belong to them (this is the first time I have dealt with insurers following a car accident, never mind navigating my way through a write-off scenario).

I won't be buying it back and repairing it myself because a) I don't have the ability, and b) frankly, my heart's not in it.
At the moment, I just want to put the money in the bank, keep adding to it with savings and in a couple of years' time get another classic.

What's the policy regarding mentioning spare bits on here? Do I just mention that they'll be appearing on a well-known internet auction site, or is that verboden?

If its a 'normal' classic policy you should have the option of buying the salvage, if you dont do that then the car will go to an established breaker normally TVR Dean, Douglas valley or Bell Hill who will sell the bits back to us at vastly inflated prices

They are always fixable but at what cost and time? If it goes to the scrappy its gone forever...

I always thought it would be a bit of a gag to make an ariel atom type car with an S chassis, probably a hell of a lot of work but it would be pretty light and would be interesting with a 5 litre V8

I bought a write off with similar damage and found the top chassis member twisted and almost impossible to repair....I was lucky to buy another straight chassis (although rusty) to sort it out.
it is a shame but it will end up as too much to sort out economically.
