We are having a children in need charity "bake sale" at work tomorrow and I have volunteered to bring a savoury in!

Was thinking a nice big pesto/pine nut/smoked bacon pasta?

Also thinking mini creamcheese and smoked salmon bagels?

Any other fairly inexpensive ideas that I can make tonight and be good by tomorrow lunch?

Thanks

They aren't baked, but you could do other pasties. Cornish pasties and a veg option or just go to Greggs, they're only about 50p each.

You jest but this worked a treat at work one year. Everyone else had gone down the Nigella or Jamie route and I got grief for what I went for.

But what was finished off first - yep - cheese & pineapple on sticks in obligatory cut in half orange complete with silver foil wrapping.

How about individual crustless quiches? Could experiment with different flavours etc?

Cheese rock cakes - dead simple and easy.

300g self raising flour
100g butter
2 beaten eggs in 1/4 pint milk
salt
pepper
mustard
150-200g strong cheddar

Mix together. Keep it lumpy. Shove in hot oven till golden brown.

Finger food always goes down better than something you need to eat with a fork.

Quiche would be my suggestion as well . You could make lots of individual ones in a muffin tray.

I steer clear of charity cake bakes and Christmas Buffets and the like at work these days.

Last time was 23 December 2008. Remember it well as I was out of the game due to Norovirus (as were several of my colleagues) right through Christmas Day.

Not blaming the food but loads of people fingering food was likely the problem. Put me right off work buffets etc though

Still I had an excuse for being a humbug that year at least.
