Anyone been around here? We've done the Val D'Aoste before, but this June will be visiting the cow bell bits of the Alps in the TVR (looking for as many tunnels as possible) and want to stay around Lake Maggiore. Does anyone have a suggestion for accomodation (I've found lots on the web, but there's nothing like a recommendation). (Secure or decent private parking please!)

Thanks.

we have stayed a fe times at the Hotel Grand Dino, in Baveno

depends what you are looking for but this hotel is right on the lake edge, very good rooms, indoor and outdoor pool, secure parking and right in the centre of the little town of Baveno - which has a couple of cracking little restaurants.

I think they also have the Hotel Simplon which is supposedly also good and a little bit less expensive.

Hotel is about £120 per night! But well worth it.

The scenery is wow! There is a decent hill climb (nature reserve!), you must go over the simplon pass from Switzerland and make sure you nip in to Zermatt for a day.

Hmmm, wheres my diary

A bit late to the thread, I know, but Baveno is a top tip. We stayed in the Simplon before it was modernised and the staff were great. The head waiter was happily conversing and joking in at least 4 languages. Top bloke.

Want to visit my house ? I have a second house near there. You know, us, mediterranian people.

Ok, to be helpful and not rethoric. Go to Dino if you can. And visit the "Flower island".

Cheers

Just got back. Stayed in the Beau Rivage - nice place, just what we like, ageing gracefully would be the best way to put it.

What is it with those Italian AutoStrade tolls? They were FOC on Sunday morning, cheapish in the afternoon, then cost a bomb during the week! Makes sense I suppose, charge more for busy periods.
