Sytner have just quoted me £1200 for a service on my 2004 E46 M3 with 70k miles. They said they need to do something to the valves which takes 5 hours and is the brunt of the cost...I said this was too much and they immediately came back with £950.

Are there any good indies in Nottingham that you guys would recommend as I am frankly fed up with Sytner, their cowboy service and their prices.

Any help would be much appreciated.

something with the valves? sounds like you might be due an inspection 2. speak to Dave at series 9, 07792 627 804. they are a very good BMW independant garage in town, ive gone there with both my E36 M3 vert andE46 M3 coupe. dave really knows his stuff. tell him marcus with the M6 gave you his details.

off the top of my head an inspection 2 theres should be in the region of £495.

cheers

Cotswold are £860. I actually think Sytner are £810 (at least, according to their websites).

I had no trouble getting my local dealer to match those prices.

I think Sytner just try and ask for as much as they can depending on the customer! I just can't justify that price on a £13k car so will try Series 9 at £500 as recommended above smile

To be honest £1200 doesn't sound too steep for an Inspection II at a main dealer these days, I was being quoted a similar amount several years back for my CSL.

Sytner's will price match against other local dealers (I always play them off against my local Stratstone) and for servicing on my M5 I've found them quite reasonable.

Seriousy? £1200 for a service...seriously?
Do you actually know what they are doing for £1200 apart from changing the oil, 'inspecting' the valves and 'inspecting' various other things that you couldnt check yourself?
What parts are included in that?

Inspection II requires shim adjustment/valve clearences, whice must be done on a cold engine and the car need to be in overnight. It takes a while, but inspection II is one of every 4 services (so once every 60k_ miles/4 years)

Get it done properly, or regret it

Before you do anything give these guys a ring.

XS Racing in Chesterfield. (Not far up the M1). Amazing blokes. They look after my E30 M3. The guy who looks after mine is called Adrian Green.....25 years plus working on 'M' cars.

They also look after very prominent members of the BMWCC's cars as well.

Just give them a call. You will not be disappointed, honest.

Ridiculous price. A treck for you, but also get a quote from Elms, Cambridge.

and it will be done properly for over half the price if he visits series 9.

Not justifying it by any stretch of the imagination, just saying that's what they were quoting two and a half years ago, I remember when I got my first e46 M3 that an Inspection II was around the £650 mark...

As for parts changed, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along with the exact details but I believe it is/was a full oil change, all filters, and sparkplugs.

Can you give me the link where Sytner said £810 please - I can't find it. Thanks!

Hi folks, 1st post on PH !

Will introduce myself and my Z4MC in the appropriate place when I find my way around ! I've been on the z4-forum for 18 months so some of you will recognise my username.

I've just about given up with Sytner Nottingham. The final straw was when they charged me £270 for a rear tyre that was damaged on their premises (I had little choice because the car was with them). This was the same size and make that Stratstone Chesterfield were prepared to supply & fit for £204 just 2 weeks later when I was unfortunate enough to get another irreparable puncture in it.

I don't know what's going on there. I've been a regular customer there for 7 years but the last 18 months they have gone downhill very rapidly. It also galls me that the person on the service desk serving you thrusts a questionnaire at you asking you to score their service. No anonomity, you give it back to them and they read it as you do !

Sytner - you need to (start) going through the online booking process. Beware that even if you don't complete it, they will start calling you.
