It's getting towards that magical time of year again. That's right, Dakar time.

I love the Dakar and will, once again, be following avidly. So to get us in the mood...

Johnny Aubert trying out his standard 450 Rally Bike for his first Dakar ride!

And if you're in the manor tomorrow, you could pop to Twickers to see the boys & girl from Dakar Team GB with their toys:

shame the Dakar launch clashes with the press day at the Bike show.

Dakar...justification for a trip to South America if ever I had one.

Yeah, it added to the excitment with locals taking pot shots at competitors and threatening to bomb the bivvies.

Talk of it moving again soon too....Russia? That'll be safe.

I used to love watching this on Eurosport in January back when I had sky.

Is there anywhere streaming it or places you can download the coverage from?

RIP Jorge Martinez Boero.

Just switched to watch the highlights and quite unrelated stumbled on the news that he was killed after a fatal fall today, the first day. News here.

Is making this sad viewing.

Great event - love it, but a very sad start today, with the death of a biker from Argentina.

Hope the rest of the rally goes well, I had the pleasure of meeting one of the truck teams a couple of weeks ago. Top guys who were looking forward to their annual couple of weeks "holiday"in the truck!

Just caught up on this on France Television, showing the end of the stage live. Decent coverage effort considering the scale of it and some cracking images thumbup
Looks like it'll be a good fight Mini vs Hummer.
