993 for £34000

I'm looking to buy a 993 for around £34,000. Will be my first Porsche. Wondering if anyone can help me
a) Been offered a 96 993 Convertible at this price, with 25k on the clock, full main dealer history, but "a few stone chips". I assume they could be fixed privately later - thi sseems like a fantastic bargain
b) would i bet better with a coupe, or getting a Boxster?
Any help appreciated

Yes, I agree.
For driving experience, resale and looks, the coupe is the better choice.
Make sure you buy a 1996 model year 993 or later, these are more sorted.
I would suggest a C2 manual coupe in RHD for that money, in a dark colour or a good metallic, with a dark coloured leather interior. This will hold its value well, and be refined but fast transport.
If you want something more raw or characterful, I would suggest getting a cheap 993 Turbo 4 in LHD for 36k or spend 40k on a 993 RS. If this is outside your budget, a 964RS for 25k upwards will be a good choice for a keen driver.
Should you want something a bit more 'normal', the Boxster S in RHD is a good car and comes within your budget.

Thanks for the replies. The same garage has a nice Coupe on at £35k, but with 49k on the clock. Its a big difference in mileage, for the same price. I'm wondering if they will move on the price of the coupe - my insurance quotes are about £500 more for the coupe rather than the cab, which surprised me, especially in London. What sort of price should I be looking at for a coupe with almost 50k on the clock?
londondscot, you are looking at low-mid 30s for a nice 50k RHD 993 Carrera Coupe. Try Autofarm, as they often have some nice examples in. If you don't mind LHD, they have a nice C4S in (immaculate, low miles) for 32k. I would trust buying from them.

Ha ha, yeah, I thought you'd notice that - I never buy cars for resale myself (I like the yellow ones with big spoilers) but I always try and give an informed, independent perspective for the first post!!!!

I was in exactly the same position as you last month and was trawling the dealers when I posted a similar question to yours on the Titanic Porsche forum. I was contacted by a chap who was selling his 993 due to the imminent arrival of a new 996. I now own a very nice dark metallic blue '96 993 Coupe which I paid less than £31k for and that included a £1k service and MOT the day before I took delivery!
I had convinced myself that I would only buy from a dealer but having looked at lots of cars it was the only one that said 'buy me' that I could afford! Needless to say I had it inspected by the local OPC before committing myself. So don't rule out private sales even though they are less convenient. I'd go for a coupe if I were you though as they look better and should be cheaper to insure.
