My car mostly drinks shell 99 or waitrose 98 (bp super apparently?) as they are always the cheapest and most convenient for me.

now the local frenchie has undercut them and they are selling their super "excellium" for a smidge less. If anyone has compared it in a car where it matters i would like to hear from you.

Ps: i don't want to get into the whole "what's the point of superunleaded" debate.

I've worked for Total a few years, and an internal research showed that shell v-power is superior to excellium, but excellium isn't bad either.

My Cayman S liked it when I had it and my Chimaera 450 also enjoys it. Can't fault it really.

Not very different to Tesco Momentum 99 in my M3.

Shell doesn't seem very different in this M3 either.

In my Z4 (2.2i), the Tesco 99 gave it a bit more urge than the Excellium. Shell was best.

I use it sometimes, seems ok, but i'd say v power feels a little bit Perkier. Total are leaving the uk, so it might not be round too much longer anyway.

£50 says if I filled your car up for you with cheap stuff you'd never tell the difference

The question is does your car need 99. Most engines have a knock sensor whih pulls the timing when it detects knock. If it doesn't knock on 99 you still get full power. I always use Total in my supercharged Mustang and have never had any issue. The TOTAL garage is local and convenient and has no queue unlike most Tesco forecourts, no Shell within miles and BP don't have that many stations selling the higher octane stuff so it's a no-brainer for me.

Get a car that uses super unleaded. Buy a can of cheap and a can of Finest, but the car on a dyno and tell us the difference.

I could tell the difference in my Z4 with ease. I'll PM you the address to send the cheque to.

Yes, but you knew what you had put in the tank. If I filled the tank for you and didn't tell you what was in it, could you tell then? Placebo effect and all that lot.

A Z4 3.0 doesnt need super. It will run perfectly well on 95 and save you money regaurdless of what you believe.

I use Excellium in my 3.0 Z4 as it's very common here and is at most of my local stations. I think there is a slight difference but whether that is in my head or not I am not sure smile

You'd probably be able to tell the difference when the engine suddenly stop working thanks to the det wink For what it's worth, First time on the rollers I got 209bhp(...2 Weeks later...)Second time on the rollers, 237bhp. Shell normal first time, V-Power the second time.(Manufacture also quotes 226bhp as standard.)

Use it in the Impreza WRX? Yes. Use it in the 1.2 Clio? No.
