New daily driver - C220
Discussion
Not sure why but thought I'd add a quick pic of my new daily driver, Merc C220 estate. Hopefully will be ideal for towing the race car

all seams good so far and hopefully it will be economical enough for me to justify a GT3 for the weekends once the E30 M3 has sold.
If anyone can recommend a decent re-map or diesel performance box please let me know

I think my dad's older model C class was the last of it's model with the same engine as this, it's had some sort of remap, not sure on the power increase. But I know it's brilliant on fuel and has just ticked over 350,000 miles with only routine servicing! He loves the thing! I must say, I do prefer this shape though, and that colour is nice!
Cheers for the replies
Wasn't my first choice of daily run around but step father offered it to me at a reasonable price so I thought I'd give it a go.
Only been on a couple of short journeys so far and it's showing 32mpg which is a fair bit better than the CSL, It's an auto so I guess 40mpg is as good as can be expected. I ws hoping one of these diesel boxes would improve the mpg a bit without doing any long term damage to the engine.

Can't help on the remap but I had one of these fitted to my E55 AMG:http://www.sprint-booster.co.uk/sprint_booster/spr...
The car came with it already fitted, but from what I remember I think it tricks the ecu into thinking your at 1/2 throttle when your really at 1/4. (Something like that anyway...been almost 4 years!!)
I never found another E55 to compare it with but found the throttle response on mine was pretty good.
Is it a CDi?
My parents had an '06 C220 CDi through work recently, I rest the trip computer to see what the fuel consumption was like as I'd thought about buying it and using it for work. After 2000miles of mixed driving the average was 36mpg! Its an Automatic I know but still thought that was pretty bad!

My ave MPG in my C220 wagon has been 36mpg from memory over the last 80k and that is with lots of motorway miles. The car seems very sensitive to temperate, returning 40 - 42mpg when temp is around 20 degrees, but dropping to 30 - 35mpg when below 10 degrees.
Gratuitous photo op......

OK so mine has a cack cloth interior, but these are pretty good wagons. Handling has always been better than expected and whilst the engine is a prehistoric design, it is quite eager and has lots of torque. Munches up the miles with ease; brain hurts before bottom! Planning to keep running it until it dies.
Biggest gripe for me is tyre degradation. I can get 12k or so from a set of Conti's, but previously had Pirelli's wearing thin at 8k!
