It works if you know how to apply it correctly, meaning what tension to put on the tape and in what direction.
This. Also good for applying onto trigger points, decreasing swelling and bruising. But as mentioned need to know how to cut and apply it.

but I tape my left knee like this

There's very little evidence to the efficacy of this tape.Tests have shown it may work, but not in any significant manner.Physio tried it on my achilles a few
months ago,but it fell off and he didn't bother again. Not convinced at all.Plenty of references about.

I've used it for years, since I was 13 and I'm now 28, and it has always worked. I used to used plain old athletic tape and now use the stretchy Kinesio tape.
Your physio must have applied it incorrectly as my tape has never fallen off.
It took two days to fall off, which is not unreasonable. It was applied correctly, apparently.Your physio must have applied it incorrectly as my tape has never fallen off.
Can you provide any references/research to back up your claims or is that just your opinion?

Been a while since you researched hasn't it? If you're trying to find sources to counterbalance a claim it's a good idea to find a different source to that
which published the original paper, for obvious reasons!

Fair enough.Better results for patellofemoral pain management, makes sense, well found.

What are you blabbing about? What difference does it make to where I found it? Been a while since you researched hasn't it? If you're trying to find sources to counterbalance a claim it's a good idea to find a different source to that

Well OP the evidence for and against, although all from the same publication, suggests the tape may or may not work..LOL

Excuse me? I have a different opinion so therefore I have no brains or manners, because I disagreed. Bloody hell, I knew there was a reason I hadn't bothered with this place for a while.Well OP the evidence for and against, although all from the same publication, suggests the tape may or may not work..LOL

OK, so here's my results after a day:
History - 7 weeks ago rolled my ankle badly, 3 days crutches, 2 weeks limping, pain and swelling still obvious. Any exercise (and I am back to doing all exercise - gym, running, b.ball) caused increase pain and swelling.
Taped the ankle yesterday lunch time - having seen a zillion ways to tape I concluded the location of tape and, to an extent, the stretch, was les relevant that the tapes "puckering" of the skin to aid fluid dispersal.....so I applied in a bit of a commbo of some Youtube suggestions for ankle rolls and Achilles issues (as a lot of my ankle pain is now located there)
Thought it looked ridiculous.
Went to gym and 8pm - leg/balance day so split squats and single leg dumbell dead lifts....sort of thing that normally kills my ankle.
Home at 9pm and ankle was 99% pain free, couldnt tell there was any pain from walking at all. Only if I applied a significant stretch did I notice it wasnt 100%
So - 7 weeks, pain......8hrs after taping - no pain. Either it works or my ankle got better on its own.
Very very odd...but I'm buying more tape!

Any chance of a photo of taping for future victims of 'rolled ankle'?
