Which Auto Transmission Fluid to use.
Discussion
I have an old codger who has me servicing his car.A 2007 Vauxhall Vectra or whatever 1.8 beaut of an engine with Auto tranmission.
Its the top of the range one with 4 wheel disc brakes and so on..
Cannot see the spec on oils in the handbook let alone the ATF. He has bought Comma semi -synthetic fluid for me to put in for him.
Not really my game servicing cars, especially modern ones.
I'm a historic Motorsport enthusiast!
I do know that the wrong fluid will affect the hydraulic brain of the auto trans though, even a speck of dirt.
Service history is remote.Even though the car is very low mileage.
What is in the box already is anyones guess, but at least if i put in the recommended fluid he cannot blame me for any comebacks.
He's a old cadger sort of guy who wants it all cheap,so thats why he can get the sundries himself..
I have inspected the car from front bumper to rear bumper in the process.
Something else has me thinking is that the front doors have a tight spot halfway opening indicating to me the frame is twisted(?).
The tyres are Bridgestone apart from the skinny spare which is Continental(?).
Strange that the off-side front is a Michelin with the sidewall scrubbed like hell.
The previous owner was a disabled lady in Scotland many miles from my location...It doesn't warrant a replacement of tyres with such a low mileage, but the tyres(Bridgestone) are date stamped probably a year younger than the vehicle(09-07.
Car was mint before this chappie obtained it from ********* car..Not so much now after a year in his ownership.

The chap turned up this afternoon . He said he had been all over town trying to find out the correct ATF to use.
I'd had thought he would have asked the main Vauxhall dealer first.Well he did that last and they told him why do you want to change the ATF when the vehicle has had such light use and only having done sub 16000 miles!!
The service schedle is marked at 60000 for ATF change unless the vehicle is used for towing or such like.
Still no wiser what type of ATF to use for this vehicle,so cannot forward any education to anyone else.
Anyhow he is now going to get his money back on the Comma 4 litre container.
That said he is now plying for me to repair body damage some yobs from the pub did to this once beautiful car.
Yeah sure some £1000+ worth of work in exchange for not doing the ATF change..
