i expect my standards of fast will be quite slow compared to others as i havnt experienced much fast stuff but should be a fairly interesting survey/timewaster

slow: 13 seconds to 60+ eg. nissan micra 1.0
average: 10-13 seconds to 60 eg. vauxhall corsa 1.2/1.4
quick: 7-10 seconds to 60 eg. toyota mr2 2.0
fast: below 7 seconds to 60 no experience

i know some cars can feel faster than others and some are much better at 20-80 as apose to 0-60 but im just using it because its a common statistic measured on cars

feel free to use examples of cars instead of seconds to 60

It takes a few years (and some never do) to realise that not all fast cars are interesting to drive.

But for me:
Slow - Sub 13
Average - 12 to 8
Quick - 7 to 5
Fast - Sub 4

The last car that made me think "that's fast" under acceleration was the 750bhp version of a Gumpert Apollo.

Braking and cornering is a different story.

I used to have a Mondeo V6 and coming off a 30mph road onto NSL, drop down a gear and foot to the floor and that fking flew but its 0-60 time is not particularly inspiring.

I live on a 30mph road, takes me about 8 minutes to get to 60.

for me, fast can also be broken down into different stages:

launch fast, the initial oomph off the mark, sort of up to 40 or 50 from standstill
midrange fast, overtaking low TED figures
roll on to top end fast, 80mph+ to vMax

i'd say by these criteria my car (m3 evo) is pretty ok on the first one, very good on the second and very good on the third.

For a road car it would be about sensation and point to point ability or rolling acceleration ability. Not sure I could really put any stats to it though.

None of the above.

My 4WS Prelude can make excellent journey times over long distances, without going that fast.

Whilst my NSX is undoubtably faster on paper, the S2000 can be a lot scarier/more fun on the right road.

Only the likes of a TVR Tuscan S may be described as fast when there's sports bikes around.

It's the nature of the beast, rather than absolute values.

The only real experience most people will have of "fast" IMHO is in-gear acceleration - say, 40-100. I don't think many people will extract the true 0-60 performance from their car because there are so few opportunities to do it and most people (me, for example) won't abuse the drivetrain enough to really go for it.

Anything slower than 8 seconds to 60 is slow anything faster than 5 seconds is fast. Mind you add into the mix turbocharged diesels and the 30-100 pull can be amazing.

This

My fleet has one of each
Outback is about 8 seconds and feels slow
Tuscan is about 4 seconds and feels fast keeps pulling for ages too
Audi A6 3.0tdi is 6.8 but feels very quick 30 to 50 and quick 50 to 100

TBH I judge speed by lap times... I certainly wouldn't measure it in 0-62s.

Slow > 10sec to 60 : (Ownership experience of VW Golf, Mini One, Nissan Micra, Metro, Vauxhall Corsa, mkIV Spitfire)

Average 8 - 10sec : Ownership experience of Smart Roadster, Mark 1 MR2, Mazda Eunos, Alfa 156 2.4 JTD)

Quick 6 - 8 sec : Ownership experience of Mini Cooper S (supercharged) and Mini Clubman S (turbo'ed)

Fast <6 sec : VX220 NA

I have driven quicker cars but not owned (VXR220 for example at 4.2secs.) I don't think there is a correlation between 0 - 60 times and enjoyment though. Also all times are from memory and from quoted figures. I seem to remember I couldn't get anywhere near the 0 - 60 in the vx220 using some rudimentry measurement methods - but for me it still felt f***ing quick.

This, my works vehicle packs around just under 8 litres and does about 8mpg. Fast, nope. Won't do 60mph.
